what do u say to the theory that light "came back" as a shinigami?

i don’t oppose to it,   but i’m not entirely too keen on it either.   i think by giving him literal godhood   (   even in the form as a death god   ),   you’re essentially taking away his false divinity   &   belief that ichor does,   indeed,   run through his veins which is a very core part of his entire character since owning the death note.

for the most part,   i only consider his death in the manga as canon so i don’t believe it’d make sense for him to go through all of that pain,   anguish and torture just to   “   come back   ”   as the thing that essentially killed him,   promise or not.   if you think about it,   it just wouldn’t necessarily make sense for raito to become a shinigami after it was a shinigami   &   his notebook in the first place that lead to his   (   and L’s,   respectively   )   demise,   especially if you partner this with the fact that you’re supposed to be watching a young boy descend into madness with all the corruption the book was dealing to him.   you could argue that because raito didn’t give up the notebook when ryuk came to him with the warnings,   it’d make sense for him to return as the very thing he wanted to be   ——   a god of sorts,   but i’d still stand by my point and say that it takes away from the entire concept of his beliefs and character as a whole   ;   he is still a false god.   he isn’t supposed to be worshipped,   he isn’t supposed to come back with an essence of godhood even in the name of death.   he is supposed to die,   thinking about L,   his choices,   the impact it made on himself and those around him before finally getting peace from reality’s events and his own mind.   those who use the notebook don’t go to heaven nor hell,   so i don’t believe that those who use it will be worthy of any sort of reincarnation unless it was in the form of another human life,   a chance to try again.   personally,   i’d say that when raito dies,   he dies.   that’s it.   there’s nothing fancy about it,   nothing that points towards him returning as a shinigami.   he dies and wherever L is,   he’s there too.

HE CAN’T HIDE HIS DISPLEASURE AT FINDING HIS MOTHER at his side when he turns.    he moves the towel in his hands to cover the grimace on his face,   the movement also working to wipe the sweat off his face that had built up from sparring.    had she been watching?   he wouldn’t be surprised.     

❛     lost,   mother?     ❜     he sets the towel down so it hangs off the fence before his arms fold.   his head turns to look ahead of him,   the clang of swords in the air from the soldiers training.     ❛    i didn’t think this would be your kind of place.    ❜     

she looks more like a fancy lady;   not one that likes to get her hands dirty.    galen?   he’s spent countless hours filthy,   much to the dismay of the woman he should call mother.    it doesn’t look like he’s going to grow out of the boyish affinity for dirt and mud any time soon,   either.
