Why is it that most of the complicated character in the series that I follow get ignored, or even hated?
In Death Note, it’d be Misa Amane and Teru Mikami most notably. Both of them are insanely complicated characters with their own reasonings, wants, and desires that clearly show through (In my opinion, at least) as almost, but not quite aligning with the main character’s goals. And...let’s not forget lesser known people (As they are mostly hated or ignored rather than unknown) such as Jack Neylon or Hirokazu Ukita?
In Avatar: The Last Airbender, what about Tai Lee? How many people talk about her skill with pressure points and how she literally took out a whole Earthbending battalion by herself as a non-bender? And yet, she still remains a character whose disposition is best described as comedic.
From D. Gray-Man...is NO one curious about Sheryl beyond him being Tyki’s brother? What about Skinn? We even have canon backstory for Skinn, and yet, no one seems to recognize it beyond how painful the transformation to Noah must have been.
Marvel. Actually, just X-Men. Kitty Pride, Shadowcat. The girl can walk through walls and send people’s minds into their past/future self. From what I can tell, she is largely ignored as ‘just another B-class Mutant’. (Granted, I have not kept up with her in comic-heavy fansites, but in general).
In DC. What about Clayface? A scorned actor who gained the ability to mimic others and is...basically indestructible because of his form. Oh, and he can mimic abilities, just saying.
I could give dozens of examples from Harry Potter simply because of the sheer number of characters, but what about Angelina Johnson? Marietta Edgecombe? Hell, even Blaise Zabini. Each of them have stories to share, and reasons for their actions that get overlooked by far more people than they should.
The list could go on, and on, and on, but the point of my mini-rant remains...Some of the characters that are faaaaaaar more fascinating than the ‘main’ or ‘more known’ characters are pushed aside because they a) go against a largely fan favorite character in morals or actions, b) are only seen for their ‘obviously poor’ traits, c) do not care for the spotlight themselves.
Just...there is SO much in a fandom for people to stop looking once they have found a character that they like. You should not just disregard a character because they ‘do not look interesting enough’ or ‘hurt your baby’. The beauty of a fandom is that it is it’s own world, separate from reality. And inside that separate world, everyone has their own reasoning. Usually, it is explained.
I’m not saying that everyone is required to like everyone, but try not to be so superficial. Who knows, your next favorite character might be one that you previously overlooked.
I love scarlet and Violet and swsh but god. The entire " dark skinned people with colored eyes" just got. So worse man. Like it's not even " oh yeah they're giving dark skinned characters lighter colored/ non brown are black eyes". THEY ARE LITERALLY. GIVING THEM THE SAME COLOR BUT IN DIFFERENT SHADES. Okay maybe that's not 100% correct,but you get what I'm saying right?

Now you're probably thinking. "R all of these are different shades! Non dark skinned characters have them too!" And yeah. You're right. But to me , these eye colors look suspiciously similar to each other. Like there isn't much variety. And that's on top of the fact that there is literally only one browned eyes character in this list and he's fucking dead canonically.
This is frustrating. And honestly, kinda insulting. Call me overdramatic all you want but I am tired of this shit. Why can't Gamefreak just give multiple dark skinned characters brown eyes. And not just those who have darker skin, those who are really dark! Trust me, I get the appeal of contrasting tones- I do it too! I'm not gonna go on my high horse and say I don't! But it's just. So tiring man. And it hurts more when, in my eyes, they literally look the same.
