They’re close friends (VERY close) and come to an agreement where the madame shares secrets she and her girls overhear from her clients with Gilan and in turn he makes sure no one messes around with her establishment. When Gilan eventually becomes commandant and moves to Araluen fief the madam also decides to relocate

Ok, RA AU idea:

Modern au where the rangers are basically high level thieves (like million dollar art thieves, not regular old burglurers) and Will is their newest member, at age 18.

While he's on a heist with Halt, they're almost caught by a detective and the group of security guards with her. One of whom is Horace Altman, (who's the same age as Will obviously)

It would be enemies to lovers Oakleaf Knight/Willace, where the two slowly fall for each other over the course of multiple heists.

Also the previously mentioned detective? Pauline Dulacy. So while Will is going through his own little Enemies to lovers plot, so is Halt! (And Crowley too for all you Craltine fans out there)

And then, as the C plot, Alyss, Pauline's detective student, is working with Cassandra, one of the wealthy people who's been stolen from, to try and stop the heists, and is slowly finding that this wealthy Heiress isn't as stuck up as she first thought.

Okay, so I was watching games of Thrones last night and The god of with no face. I was just kinda bored right now and thought “

Hey, what if rangers ‘serve’ the No faced god?”

Which would actually come in handy SO much since the people with no face can literally shapeshift.

Just imagine, you’re a soldier of, idk, let’s say Morgarath, sitting in an Inn. A younger girl walks up to you to get your order. You stay there eating for the night, not knowing that someone asked the girl to kill you, you stand up to pay and suddenly your vision goes blurry, you’re throwing up blood and then you are dead. No one knows what happened except the ‘little girl’ who has walked outside and took on another person’s form.

Imagine how useful that would be

(Oh, and btw, can someone please tell me if Meera or Brienna dies? I will need to mentally prepare myself for if they do right now)

Ranger's Apprentice nostalgia hit hard and now I'm wondering about AUs where Will's parents don’t die but Halt is still a part of this life. The current versions are:

Neither of the parents die, but they see that Will isn't going to be happy settlings as a farmer, so they try to teach him music. He likes it a lot but it's still not enough. They write a letter to the ranger they saved when will was a baby. Halt shows up planning on rejecting will and cutting ties. He gets attached instead.

They both survive and end up moving to Redmond because Daniel is so injured, he can't really work the farm anymore. He helps in the ward, and his wife splits her time between odd jobs, a farm hand and her family. Halt feels guilty and helps out when he can and gets attached.

Daniel survives the first attack but dies when the robbers come. His last words are to beg Halt to make sure his wife and son are cared for, and Halt finds himself acting as a platonic co-parent to the mother.

Alyss survives AU where she gets out of the burning inn with severe burns, but she's alive. She's transported into the Anselm fief's castle and treated in the infirmary.

However, Will doesn't know this. He is happily going about his day until an incorrect message about his wife dying in the fire gets to him.

Will is devastated. Alyss, she couldn't die, she always had a plan. He tucks up and goes to see for himself, leaves Redmont in Halt's hands and gallops with Tug to Anselm as fast as possible.

There, he barges into the charred ruins, trying to find any evidence, until a pair of peasants asks what he's doing. Will says that his wife died there and the villagers tell him that a woman was saved from the fire.

Will immediately goes to the castle, foregoes greeting the baron and goes straight to the healers.

Alyss is there, in bandages, healing, but she's alive and giving Will the most beautiful smile she can muster. There aren't any hugs as not to hurt her more, just

"I thought you were dead."

"I'm stronger than I look, Will."

And then they lived happily ever after
