The 2018 Survivor of the Year, Lisa Sepulveda, is the Chief Client Officer at Edelman and overall phenomenal human. In 2016, she was listed in the 40 Women to Watch Over 40 ranking and won SmartCeo’s Brava Award, which honors top female CEOs. And her impressive resume doesn’t stop there! She’s won the Mentor of the Year Award from She’s the First, a nonprofit focused on girls’ education in the developing world, and was featured in Forbes “#likeaboss” leadership profile.
But what Lisa would say is her most remarkable accomplishment is being a mom to her two daughters, Sarah and Megan, and coming out on the other side of breast cancer - stronger and wiser. She thinks her husband and high school sweetheart is pretty awesome too :)
Lisa is an inspiration to everyone she encounters both in and out of the office, so when she was diagnosed with breast cancer on her 47th birthday, she immediately went into “let’s kick this” mode. Seven years later, she believes her “power of positive” attitude is what powered her through her journey.
To honor and celebrate her survivorship, Lisa has become a perennial breast cancer fundraiser. She has participated in the Avon 39 walk for many years and is now leading Team Titans and Tiaras to fundraising stardom for the 2018 Race! She is committed to spreading her love and light by advocating for breast cancer patients everywhere, especially medically underserved women who do not have the same access to resources that she did.
Lisa is used to taking charge in her personal and professional life, but understands the importance of having a strong support system to lean on through the ups and downs of a breast cancer journey. Support comes in many different forms, and sometimes from unexpected places; Lisa encourages patients undergoing breast cancer treatment to allow people to help in whatever way they can.
Gerri Willis of Fox Business Network presents the Survivor of the Year Award to Lisa Sepulveda.
Her thoughts for the Komen community? “YOU have the power within YOU, even in those moments when you feel like you do not. I encourage other women to not let cancer define you, because you are so much more than any diagnosis.”
Lisa is thrilled to be recognized as the 2018 Survivor of the Year Award. She is grateful for the opportunity to cross the Race for the Cure finish line, and everyone here at Komen NYC is grateful to have her in the Komen community!
Leader of the Pack: Lisa and Team Titans and Tiaras have raised over $14,000 and counting!
