I don't want a happy Pride, or to make demands, or to look for equal rights from neoliberal (aka extremely right-wing) institutions. I don't want a happy Pride, nor to fight for be given the right that will be taken away from me in the matter of years, if not months. I don't want a happy Pride whilst anti-migrant, anti-gender, anti-democratic, fascist movements commit genocides (and I'm not just talking about Palestine). I don't want a happy Pride from some corporation which will sell my rights to future dictator the very next day if it meant that they'd get a chance to abuse their employees more easily. I don't want a happy Pride whilst Romani people and people of color are systematically discriminated. I don't want a happy Pride whilst cultural institutions are getting destroyed, whilst people are losing trust in science and vaccines, whilst academic institutions are being attacked by fascist groups. I don't want a happy Pride whilst the police and prisons still exist "to protect us." I don't want a happy Pride whilst the rights of every single marginalized group are being taken away, all across the world. I don't want a happy Pride whilst capitalism and technofeudalism force people into situations of homelessness from which they can't escape, whilst natural resources are being destroyed on such an extreme level just so everyone could lose all their digital rights, whilst people have to work three jobs to pay for their rent and the most essential of groceries, otherwise they'd end up on the street. I don't want your happy Pride, I want a fucking revolution and active resistance.

honest question re: young men jerking off too much to become bi

Or, I guess, 2 questions about bisexuality in women. We see that women’s bi-identification has increased from ~3% to almost 30%, but how many of these women have actually slept with a woman? There’s the obvious point that I was still straight when I was a virgin. But, I do wonder what “sexual attraction” means to people in some cases, especially when they show little to no interest in ever actually sleeping with a woman. No disrespect to bi gals, I wouldn’t call someone out on this to their face. Just something that confuses me.

second question is if porn is part of the increase in women’s bisexuality, since 30% of the population being bisexual seems very high. Mainstream porn is increasingly a first-line source of “what sex looks like” and it posits a world where most/all women are recreationally bisexual. We have data that youth sex encounters increasingly involve activities like spanking, hands on necks, or similar, and that the rate of heterosexual anal sex is rising as well. It feels possible that young women are being socialized into sexually fantasizing about other women.

that said - I’d predict baseline rates of bisexuality to be somewhere in the middle. Even if women’s number is inflated, men’s is probably lower than it “should” be, due to the greater social stigma of homophobia. Personally, I think a big part of what suppresses men’s Bi ID-rate is just that they say they’re straight or gay, no in-between. There are a lot of “straight” men jerking off to femboy hentai, and some of them have fucked a dude who was dressed as a cat girl, but there’s no social benefit to a man identifying as bi in the way that a woman in an artsy social circle might benefit, and some real detriments.

vaguely related, but idk what it means: the massive increase in men vocally proclaiming a submissive orientation or “dommy mommy kink” or what have you. This is honestly a bigger culture shift, speaking as a straight man, than if the dudes jacking it to the idea of topping a boy in a skirt admitted they were bi.

I’m sure people on here will have a field day with this, but as someone who grew up in normie straight culture, and is still pretty close to it, topping a sufficiently feminine man in a skirt is significantly more within the bounds of “being straight” than wanting to be pegged by a woman, let alone openly wanting to be pegged by a woman. We still kinda Athenian out here.

(for what it’s worth, I did not want to be pegged, but growing up I was very attracted to the type of muscly gym girls you now see all over social media. Even this was viewed as a slightly suspicious level of male-submissiveness, and I got teased a decent amount. There is no innate 'baseline' rate of bisexuality. Sexual orientation is a social structure. The baseline rate of bisexuality in men of Ancient Greece was close to 100%.

Writings from the Liu Song dynasty claimed that homosexuality was as common as heterosexuality in the late 3rd century:    "All the gentlemen and officials esteemed [homosexuality]. All men in the realm followed this fashion to the extent that husbands and wives were estranged. Resentful unmarried women became jealous."

Every culture previous to ours viewed homosexual attraction as a potential that existed within every individual. In the Bible, it is classified as a sin just like adultery or masturbation - temptations that could arise in anyone, not just in a specific kind of person, a 'homosexual.' That's new and modern, and is a way that society has found to regulate sexual desire in people in a society with less homophobia.

"Heterosexual" men who watch porn spend quite a bit of time each day getting turned on watching other men with big dicks penetrate things or be pleasured, and don't often spend time watching just women or lesbian pornography, but the social construction of the identity of 'straight' allows them to filter out any attractions to the men they may be experiencing before they reach the conscious level.

From birth, sexual desire is formless. We just have this frustration, driven by hormones, that is very similar to hunger. It's based in a lack - and desire exists to satisfy that lack. We aren't born with an innate taste palate, we aren't even born knowing what food is or how to eat. So when we're hungry it's just an unidentified discomfort and we start screaming without knowing the first thing about how to solve it. That's up to the parents.

We do, luckily, have automatic reflexes similar to when the doctor taps your knee, such that when a boob or a finger or a pacifier is inserted in your mouth you start sucking on it. You have to learn, from there, over time, what that feeling of hunger is and build associations between that and eating. You were not born with an urge to eat when you were hungry. That was learned.

Sexual desire works similarly. Men are not born with a platonic 'hot woman' frontloaded into their minds. They aren't born knowing what other people are at all. That has to be learned. Sexual frustration kicks in around adolescence and all of the socialization up to that point has been telling you with what and how you should satisfy your sexual desire when it arises. You understand that when you experience this kind of lack (sexual frustration) the proper thing to sate it is this object of desire people have been constructing for you by example, by story, etc.

There's this fancy term from the early days of critical theory, I think Herbert Marcuse originated it. It's called 'radical subjectivity.' It means, basically, a condition where you view the current state of things as intolerable. Often it's achieved by experiencing impoverishment along some axis - in this case, we're interested in sexual impoverishment.

Achieving radical subjectivity allows a personal to become revolutionary - to break through the ordinary behavioral restraints imposed upon them by the symbolic order to make their unconscious desires manifest consciously. In doing so, the person becomes, in that aspect of their lives, the aristocrat of Nietzsche or Novatore; the person who refuses to be contented with the crumbs the system says is their due and demands more, reaching out to seize those possibilities. They are impoverished so they act to rearrange their reality in such a way that they are now wealthy.

Along a sexual axis, perhaps this manifests as a sexually deprived person breaking out of their comfortable taboos as and having an encounter with someone they had previously disregarded as a sexual object because of deeply instilled norms. Many people warn that lust is a madness - I say it's an underutilized gateway out of the madness engulfing society, which can allow us to reach a form of sanity and awareness of the true nature of things.

You might view sexual desire as a flow, or a river, that waxes and wanes over time as the object of desire is reached (orgasm), and 'sexuality' and 'sexual orientation' are levies and dams in this flow that are instilled in us through socialization to orient it in certain directions. It is when the level of the river reaches such heights that it overflows the banks, bursts past the levies, that the potential is created for that river to completely reshape itself, to overcome those deeply ingrained social structures. That is where potential for true sexual self-liberation comes in.

This state of exception is often only temporary, but if repeated enough times, a person can more permanently decondition themselves from societal demands along that axis, and, in that resulting vaccum, the possibility for the construction of new modes of being and relating to one another and the world arise. It is here that I see realistic possibilities for an escape from the pathological paradigm of modernity, the encompassing web of patriarchy, capitalism, heteronormativity, reproductive futurity, etc.

Hope that helps! Not that any of this is necessarily practical, on a societal level. Herbert Marcuse went on and on about how radical subjectivity along financial terms is unattainable now in the first world because capitalism is too good at satisfying people's needs. People would organize unions to take control of workplaces and then get satisfied with some raises and paid vacation. Along the sexual axis, the porn is not going away, it is the equivalent. People aren't getting married anymore and we're having less sex but it's okay because we have porn. Theoretically the r/nofap people and incels constitute a potential revolutionary class of sexual dissidents, but good luck making them see that, all they want is success within the current paradigm of patriarchy and misogyny.

Yk sometimes, as an ace, it is way easier to say I don't date than to admit that I have the capacity to love and the need to be loved, romantically or queer/platonically, to love multiple people in varying ways, to love multiple people in the same way, to want to be touched, to want to touch, to participate in kink, to want a partner, perhaps many partners, that I wish to relate to people in numerous ways that are fundamemtally queer and radical... but I haven't done any of that.

It's not like I'm one of the people who treat not having dated in your twenties as some sort of loss of potentoal, but it can get lonely. None of taht requires experiencing sexual attraction or sex in general.
