Ok so I know this ask was sent months ago for this meme, but I genuinely wasn't able to get to it before now because I wasn't able to do digital art until now because of computer issues. XD

Good timing though since the Relevant Episode was just put on youtube again recently.

Anyway WAAAAH you really wanna see my boy Rainy cry huh.... well here you go Mells. The boi Rainy Smurf he is sad. :( It'll be ok Rainy...

Some fun facts about (b)rainy smurf from my fic Rainy Days;

First, about my art in this post lol: yes, the “there are many benefits to being a marine biologist” meme was big on tumblr at the time, and influenced my characterisation of Rainy. I wanted to show Rainy not only rejecting Brainy’s usual ways/likes/interests, but cultivating some sort of hobby or interest of his own. Though it’s not really only marine biology per se, you get the picture.

As the ending of the fic suggests, following the ending he does go by the name Brainy, but he will still go by Rainy sometimes and in some situations. He just has more than one name now!

As shown in the fic, Rainy does not speak and cannot understand smurf language. Brainy obviously can. After the events of the fic, he can fully understand smurf language, but uses smurf language vernacular much more sparingly. He doesn’t consciously realise how much less he uses smurf language however. But it’s because Rainy never used smurf language in his speech (due to not really understanding it).

After the ending, although he no longer addresses the other smurfs as Mr/Miss/Sir etc, he still uses that politeness convention for those outside the village, for strangers and/or those he is less familiar with/close to.

in my main post abt Rainy i mentioned that the episode he would first appear in was King Smurf, but it’d make a lot more sense for his first appearance to be in Foul Weather Smurf! for obvious reasons of course…

as a matter of fact, i started imagining working Rainy into the episode! he’d replace Farmer and Hefty would replace Poet (the two have a bit of a “rivalry”, but not really… it’s more like Rainy doesn’t like Hefty because he’s one of the more aggressive smurfs)

Rainy would want it to be raining because he has the most fun in the rain, he doesn’t understand why the other smurfs don’t like it. Hefty doesn’t have a personal reason for changing it back to being sunny, he’s doing it simply because Someone changed the weather back

i’ll def think about this more later…
