Slumped with his chin on his hand, Karma watched the scene outside of the classroom window. It had been playing out for many minutes now, and each passing moment caused his knuckles to itch into fists, and his jaw to tense.
Maehara was flirting again. They were mindless girls with nothing better to do, but flirting is flirting; cheating is cheating.
More time passed, and Karma fought hard to quell the angry burn in his stomach. Maehara had left — a wink, a smile and a cheery ‘bye-bye’ — and his footsteps were pacing up to the classroom where Karma sat, despite the fact that it was lunchtime and no lessons were due there any time soon.
The door flew open. “There you are!” Maehara exclaimed, bright teeth shining through his grin. “I’ve been searching all over for you, you know?”
“Hmm, really?” Karma drawled carelessly, though the curl of his fingers depicted his true feelings. “And I suppose you were asking Meinu-san and Oroka-san for directions?” Maehara let out a breath, the noise following it being something caught between a sigh and a scream.
“Karma, I swear, they just came onto me,” Maehara explained. Karma sucked in a sharp breath to suppress the fury spreading through his chest.
Silence. Then, “Even though they know I’m your boyfriend?” Maehara nodded profusely. Pure anger settled in Karma’s throat, the petals of its flame unfurling rapidly at the faux innocence on Maehara’s face. “Wow, their names fit them well.”
“I trusted you!” Karma yelled, slamming his hand onto the desk before him. The emotions caught in his throat writhed painfully. Stunned into silence, Maehara simply stood, his face erased of anything other than shock. “I trusted you, and you betrayed that trust. I’m leaving.” Karma picked up his bag from the hook on his desk, and made for the door. Impeding him, a hand knocked into his chest, and Karma followed the arm connected to it until he saw the owner’s face.
“… Please, Karma,” Maehara begged. “Please, if you leave now, I don’t know what I’ll do.” Karma shook his head bitterly.
“Then you’d better figure it out quick,” he rebuffed, then coldly muttered, “Have fun with Meinu-san.”
