Fandom New Year’s Resolutions 2026

My first post of 2026!!! I was tagged by so many love folks, including @xkatchy, @lotusfueltofire, @trash-nerd, @rsenak, @wolfmoonwildflowers, @zennihilation, @serbarris, @waxlyricalmoon, @dudewheresmynug, @tarasmom, @rooks-dagger, @sorcerousadventurer, @maagisterpavus, and @in-the-drowning-deep — thank you so, so much to every single one of you, i cherish you all so dearly ♥️

Rules: Post 6 (or more!) fandom New Year resolutions for 2026 and then tag at least 6 friends

1. Commit to writing regularly: I’m a bit sporadic with my writing, so in 2026, I want to make it a proper routine that I do every day. A minimum word count or a something of the sort should help me with making sure I don’t put writing in the back burner when it’s something I love so much.

2. Begin a routine of art practice: I haven’t drawn in a very, very long time. Like. Over a decade. And then… I decided to go for it, with encouragement from friends, and the joy I felt was unparalleled. I want to make this a routine and really, truly get back to art and drawing.

3. Engage in more events/zines/community things: I was really scared at first to get involved with different events, because I just wasn’t sure if I could? But. I CAN. I want to keep putting myself out there and being A PART OF THINGS, because it’s so much fun!!!

4. Read more: I had a plan 2025 for reading and didn’t quite get there, but in 2026, I’m going to try again!! On top of that, I really want to make an effort to read more fic and engage with even more works by my fellow creators!

5. Broaden my socializing: I am such an anxious person and it’s been hard to put myself out there— but it has paid off so well, and I have met some truly amazing people and made some cherished friends. In 2026, I want to keep pushing myself to reaching out, making connections, and creatively working with new friends and fellow creators! Expect to see me really trying to chat more and plan some creative fun times with y’all!!!

6. Write a long fic: Most of my writing this year was relatively short, so I want to challenge myself to write something L O N G (like 50k words or more). I think this year I can make it happen!!!

It has genuinely been a joy to join this community her and to get to know all of you and your Rooks and other OCs. I have cherished every opportunity to chat, create, yes-and, and play with all of you— and cannot wait to continue doing so in 2026!!! 🥰♥️

1. Origins of your blog’s name: I have an affection for nonverbal communication and love the idea of folks having methods of hand signaling to communicate with one another. It just appeals to me. Also, writing feels like a signaling with hands, as a bonus.

favorite shampoo (scent or type/brand) Okay, so, I don't use this often, but I absolutely love V05 shampoo, especially the Strawberry Fields scent? BUT my actual favorite that I use is a grapefruit-mint co-wash from Trader Joe's

do you sleep with the light on or your doors closed? why? Doors are open, usually lights off, blackout curtains and all. BUT. I actually really love to sleep with the TV on. There's something weirdly comforting about it being on when I wake up in the middle of the night. Also the doors need to stay open because otherwise our pets would throw a collective fit lol

hot or cold coffee/tea? Cold coffee, hot tea. Give me a giant cold brew or a big mug of irish breakfast and I will be happy as can be.

do you use the name username for all/most of your socials? Noooooope. there's a decent amount of variation. This one is unique.

white shoes, yay or nay? why? hhhhh nope, nope. I do not like white shoes. I will maintain my dedication to black boots.

it's been a minute since i've done one of these! thank you so much for the tag @guacamolleee!! Also, 148,535 words on AO3 since January?!?! That is AMAZING!!!

Fun fact: oh man, I'm bad at these. Last time I did this, I mentioned map-making as a hobby, so I guess relatedly -- I'm a dungeon/game master and I absolutely love it. My home table is playing in a fully hombrewed sandbox world that is aimed toward them becoming heroes of legend, and we've been playing in our current campaign for about 3 years now!

Last song on repeat: Several songs by Ashnikko (Full Frontal, Trinkets, Chichinya) and Girls with Gills by chloe moriondo

Currently watching: Critical Role Campaign 4! I think my wife and I might also start watching FMA: Brotherhood soon, too? We just finished a rewatch of Frieren.

Currently reading: Rakesfall by Vajra Chandrasekera, as well as Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton. (JP is one of my favorite books, I re-read it often and own several copies).

Currently eating: A delicious challah breakfast sandwich from a local diner and a custom acai bowl, as a treat

Current obsession: Dragon Age is holding steady as an obsession, hehe. Specifically, I've been really invested in Nevarran culture and Crow guild hierarchy/structure. Other than that, crocheting! I've been slowly building myself up to making granny squares.

Currently working on: A little Tashur piece for Halloween, a massive unruly time loop fic, and some codex pieces for Nona! I'm also crocheting myself a massive blanket lol

What's something that you're excited about right now: an upcoming trip to meet and hang out with online friends!! I'm very nervous but very excited.

What kind of person do you want to be: a curious one. I never want to stagnate; I always want to wonder and learn and see the world with fascination.

Something that brings you joy: comfy days like today. I'm playing on tumblr, my wife is playing Stardew Valley, and it's just... a comfy, cozy, happy fall day.

Something you wish for: more free time? Or maybe more energy to use the free time I have. My disabilities have been catching up to me a lot lately, because I loooooove to push it, so maybe I'll make an effort to be better about all of that lol

Something you're proud of: teaching myself to crochet! I've always wanted to learn a fiber craft, but I could not knit, even though my wife is a knitter (and an excellent one at that). But crochet has been working out so well, and I really, really enjoy doing it. I've built myself up from lopsided scarves and lumpy mittens to making blankets, potion bottles, and (slooooowly) granny squares!

13. Ooh, something I learned recently… my wife @lemondelighted was recently teaching me about different yarn twists (Z twist specifically) and how that affects the way a finished knit piece looks and feels. That was fascinating to learn!

15. “be gentle with yourself” is one i use a lot. or “let yourself believe it’s okay.” (we are talking about advice i give and don’t take, right? 😂)
