full moon in capricorn || the karmic reality check

the full moon rises in capricorn on june 29th at 8 degrees and it is not coming in gently.

full moons expose. that is what they do. they illuminate what has been living in the dark, what you have been avoiding looking at, what you have been pretending is not there. and in capricorn, the sign of discipline, structure, and long term consequence, what gets exposed is the gap between who you say you are and how you are actually moving.

i am a capricorn moon. so i feel this one in my bones every time. and what i know about this energy is that it does not shame you. it just refuses to let you lie to yourself anymore.

so here are the real questions this full moon is asking.

where are you sabotaging yourself. what disciplines are you hiding from. what have you been avoiding that you already know needs your attention. the full moon in capricorn does not care about your reasons. it cares about your patterns. and right now it is shining a light directly on the version of you that is causing the blockage.

because here is the thing about blockages. they are not always laziness. sometimes the thing standing between you and what you want is a version of yourself you have not been willing to release yet. a way of thinking, a habit, a story, a goal you have outgrown but are still dragging behind you because letting it go feels like failure. this moon is asking you to put it down.

look at the last six months. be honest. what worked and what didn't. where were you consistent and where did you keep starting over. capricorn rules the long game and this full moon is a progress report on exactly that. not on your potential. on your follow through.

this is also happening the same day mercury stations retrograde in cancer. cancer is directly across the sky from capricorn. the axis here is feeling versus doing, the past versus the future, what you want versus what you are actually building. the moon is full right on that line. you cannot hide in your feelings tonight and you cannot hide behind your ambition either. both sides are being exposed.

find what house capricorn falls in in your natal chart. that is the specific area of your life asking for release right now. that is where the purge needs to happen.

and i do recommend doing something intentional with this energy. a release ritual, whatever that looks like for you. a prayer, a candle, writing what you are releasing and burning it, a full ceremony if that is your practice. get deliberate about what you are letting go of. this moon has the energy to move things if you work with it.

what needs to go. what version of you is ready to be released. get real with yourself tonight.

Beaver Moon Release Ritual

It is a full moon tomorrow night, the Beaver Moon to be exact. Click here to read more about it. I have been asked what I will be doing for it. And I gathered, why not share it with all of you?

Before I start doing any ritual, I like to cleanse my space with sound. I have a bell for this, but it can be anything that you like. I also like to listen to music, because it gets me in the right headspace to do a ritual. Click here for my full moon playlist on Spotify!

Journaling Every full moon I like to journal and do some prompts. I choose these prompts with the moon's spiritual intentions in mind. For the Beaver Moon these are: Protection, Release, Cleansing, Empathy, Transformation and Preparation. You can journal before or after your ritual. I like to do it before, so that I am in the right headspace for the current full moon. I've chosen for the following journal prompts:

What aspects of my life am I ready to transform or release?

In what ways can I gather and preserve my energy for the winter ahead?

What's a recent situation or emotion that feels like its blocking my progress and how can I work to overcome it?

The Ritual Now let's move on to the actual ritual I will be doing! I have decided to do a releasing ritual, to leave behind anything I don't want in the past year and move on with the things that I do want. For this particular ritual, I have also incorporated colour magic and candle magic.

What do we need?

Neutral oil (I use almond oil, but olive oil is also okay!)

Black pepper (To banish)

Black candle (For new beginnings, but a white candle is also okay!)

Candle holder

Pen

Paper

Rosemary (for cleansing)

Hyssop (for purification)

A heat-safe dish, bowl, cauldron

A lighter or matches

Pester and mortar

The process

Put the Rosemary and Hyssop in the Pester and Mortar. Grind until the herbs are small.

Anoint the black candle with the oil.

Sprinkle your herb mixture on the candle until it's covered to your satisfaction.

Put the candle in the candle holder.

Write down what you want to leave behind in the past year. Personally I like to concentrate on only the three most important things.

Put some black pepper on the paper and fold it closed, preferably folding it away from you.

Light the black candle and recite the following (either out loud or in your head, whatever you are most comfortable with) I leave the past where it belongs, and welcome a fresh start I release all that holds me back, and does not serve my heartI replace my overthinking, with peace and harmonySuch is my magickal energy, so mote it be

Take your folded pieces of paper and burn them in the flame of the candle.

Let the pieces of paper burn completely on the heat-safe dish/bowl/cauldron

Let the candle burn completely down as well

With everything burnt, you can now dispose of the paper remains. You can either throw it in the trash or blow it out in the wind.

And that is my ritual for the Beaver Moon! Like always, feel free to take inspiration. I highly encourage mixing and matching things so that they fit you and your practice! If the herbs I mentioned don't feel right, choose others that fit your needs. The colour of the candle, same story. Make the craft fit you, feel comfortable to you!

fall cleaning

(a ritual to renew before winter)

-intentions: remove old obstacles, release shame and guilt, & unfasten unwanted bonds

-begin from the harvest moon or the last full moon before autumn, to be completed on the next new moon

-clip nails (just fingers, or all) & save them

-deep clean your home/space; focus on the things that you have been avoiding

-prepare a black candle, with salt representing purification

-throughout this time period, meditate on what you will be letting go of & leaving behind; memories, situations, people, objects, ideologies

-finish your cleaning before the sun rises on the day of the new moon

-trim the ends of your hair & combine it with your nails

-on the night of the new moon, light the salted black candle, and bury the hair & nails in a small, but deep, hole. tamp the dirt out to help return its undisturbed appearance, and if possible, cover with a stone or rock (s)

Just a wee spell/ritual I use for moving past old obsessions :)

I made this because personally, for me, obsessions (specifically over media and stories) go one of two ways: either they settle nicely into my life and I continue to be fond of them but I have no issues moving on OR, whenever I return to this media or hear about it I am delved back into the obsession, whether there was Closure or not, and it doesn’t necessarily make me feel happy anymore to keep thinking about it. This is a little spell to help my mind move on and open me up to new stories.

All you need for this spell is a tray or dish or shallow bowl (cookie trays work GREAT) and a rock. I like to use a river rock because Symbolism, but any rock will do- don’t use a crystal though, not unless you KNOW the crystal is in no way soluble. And some paper and a pen. Ideally, you also got an open window with some space in front of it for witchery, but thats mostly an add-on.

Put water in the dish and put the dish in front of the window- ideally, an open one, like I said. Hold the rock and envision it is you; if you want, you can write your name on it, sigil it, put your favorite perfume on it, but this isn’t necessary. The rock is you. When something is not worth holding on to, it slips right off down the current. Place it in the center of the dish, maybe poking out of the water, maybe not, with a good few inches of space on either side.

If you have music that is associated with whatever obsession you are looking to release, you can listen to that if you like- especially if this is a soundtrack, look for songs near the end that play over “final” scenes and where closure is reached. On a small piece of paper, write down the name of your obsession, what you liked about it, what it taught you, what itch it scratched, what made it stand out. If this is small enough, you can fold it in half like a tent and float it on the water; if your paper is too big, get a second smaller piece and write only the name or maybe a symbol/logo before making your little floaty tent. You could also make some other kind of fancy origami thing but I don’t know how to do that so, I haven’t tried it.

Anyway, set the paper on the water and gently blow it (or allow the wind to blow it) towards the rock that is you. Say or think, “when [obsession] came to me, it was what I needed in order to grow and learn,” here, you can tell it any of the things you have to say. When you’re ready, blow the paper past the rock and say, “Now, I have taken what I needed. I release [obsession] now, knowing I can pull it back to me should I ever need it again. Thank you, [obsession]. I will be moving on now, but you helped me a lot,” now, you can dispose of the paper however you like.

Finally, as an extra step, I like to ask the wind not to bring me any more news or thoughts of this obsession, and to instead bring me something new. If I was following certain creators on social media who made a lot of content for that obsession, I will stop following them, if that feels right. I will not allow myself to rewatch or relisten or reread the obsession for a predetermined amount of time, for instance, a month, so I have some space.

I hope this helps someone- I know it’s helped me a couple times- if you try it out, let me know! I’ve never shared a spell before and I want to know if it works for other people.
