I don't want to ruin my friend's longstanding Ren Faire tradition, but my first Ren Faire today was largely an inferior version of the Scottish Games we've been going to much closer to home for the past 20 years (with the exception of the jousting)

Not in the least because I have never seen so many fucking white people with dreads and makeup imitating tribal tattoos in my goddamn life

There were at least two separate people whose 'dreads' were literally frayed rope/twine pinned to their real hair. Poorly

There were also a lot of people who weren't doing any of that and didn't even make eye contact with the goth 'Viking' losers, and were just gushing to each other about cool finds and how they put their outfits together, but like. Hopefully if you're reading this you understand how people still being able to 'escape' and have fun when the racism is right there is, you know. A privilege

Went to our last renfaire of the year and had fun

At some point when we were watching a medieval drag show/theater play about the firsts kings of France (very very fun) it started raining but the drops were HUGE and then is stopped so we kept going and went to get food.

Then when we were getting food it rained again and hailed also and like

This things were full on ice cubes

That hurt

+there were so many people under the tents , only our front halves were protected so backs and asses were SOAKED

It was a lot of fun
