It had been a month since everything had happened, since Bailee stopped being a hero and started working for Mason and his family. She really cared about her friend and everything seemed to happen so fast, including moving in to his place, leaving everything in her old life behind. However, she felt as though there was something hidden behind everything, it really was quite fast. He was more protective of her, she just believed that it was due to almost dying because of his poison, but deep down she knew there was something else. She had spent a good portion of the day working when she made her way to the kitchen, seeing him standing there. She took a deep breath, it was now or never, she had to know everything. She had said it fast at first, almost blurting it out, it did catch his attention enough for her to walk closer. "Are you in love with me Mason? Is that why you wanted me to live here with you?" She asked, her words slower and clearer than before.
Mason had thought that'd what she'd said... he'd just.. hoped he'd been wrong. Hoped? Was that the right word? Maybe.. maybe not... There was panic at the question, dark eyes darting away from the woman as he took a quick moment to quickly weigh his options. Options? What options? He would tell her the truth, that was his only option... and she'd either hate him or not. But there was no turning back the wheels of time, and the question had been asked.
"Yes." A short simple word for an answer that could have spanned thousands. Of course he was in love with her. He'd been in love with her since they'd been 12 years old, her knee scraped, her last baby tooth knocked out, tears drying on her cheeks. He'd been in love with her since they'd been 15, heart broken as he'd watched her flirt with that guy in their math class. He'd been in love with her since he'd been 18, desperately trying to figure out how to talk her out of becoming a hero, just to ultimately stay silent and support her because he'd have done anything for her.
Of course he was in love with her... He'd been 20 and staring at her sitting on his couch, barely alive from his poison, suddenly picturing life without the one constant good thing. The one thing keeping him from completely losing his fucking mind and burning it all down. The one person who could quiet all the noise in his brain. "Yes, I am."
