I would have guessed that, in this day of word processing (as opposed to writing with pen in hand) the blue book had gone the way of the ink well. After disappearing from classrooms, the exam booklets are now experiencing a resurgence, thanks to an unlikely cause: artificial intelligence.
In the name of academic integrity, some university professors are going back to in-person, phones-down, handwritten exams. Sales of blue books have spiked as much as 80 percent at some schools.
