Lo studio, che ha intervistato 279 leader nel settore alimentare e delle bevande che hanno utilizzato la tecnologia mobile durante l'estate 2018, ha rilevato che il 62% degli intervistati ha espresso dubbi sulla propria capacità di tenere il passo con la velocità dei cambiamenti della tecnologia mobile. Più della metà (il 59%) ha ammesso di avere avuto dubbi sulla propria capacità di affrontare efficacemente l'aggressività dei propri concorrenti digitali.
Sono ormai note da tempo le condizioni critiche del colosso francese della distribuzione, alle prese con tagli di personale e riduzioni delle perdite nel bilancio; la speculazione corre sulle note delle recenti incursioni nel retail fisico di Amazon con l'acquisizione di Whole Food Market lo scorso anno ed ai rumors che vedrebbero Bezos interessato ad incorporare all'interno del proprio ecosistema commerciale retailers importanti in Europa.

Over on the blog this week entitled 'The High Street is not Dead' is all about the continued evolution of the high street. Town centres need to find a new purpose and balance of businesses that reflect the changing consumer habits and embrace new trends and digital technology. Rather than retailers focusing on CVAs (company voluntary arrangements ) as these arrangements will inevitably only provide a short term solution for businesses that are destined to fail. Retailers must evolve now to ensure that they are part of a future high street. We are witnessing this at the moment with businesses such as Marks & Spencer reviewing their portfolio and streamlining to become stronger and better equipped to be a part of the future high street. We will continue to witness businesses strategically positioning themselves to assist their own evolution.
