Handmade hardback portfolios are an item that I wish were more popular. They are a beautiful way to protect your art or documents, and far nicer and better for the environment than the black plastic ones that are typically sold online or at art supply stores.

It takes a lot of time, patience, and material to make one of these. But I think you'll agree that the final outcome is worth it.

This portfolio is made with beautiful handmade Lokta paper from Nepal, gold cotton bookcloth, and cream cotton ribbon. At 9x12 inches it comfortably holds letter size items.

I made two journals like this last year and they sold before I could even list them online. I managed to get another batch of this beautiful handmade, black asanoha paper this spring and make two more journals. You can do the usual and check out my site for all the details! I'm behind again on my photos, but I promise that all the new stuff that I've teased in the past few weeks in my stories will get proper listings and posts in the next couple of weeks! I'm so excited about the work I've been producing this summer.

When I was contacted by a client to make a box for their origami paper, I was ecstatic. My business started making origami cards and ornaments, and I have a huge stash of origami paper. So this request was very special to me.

Because they needed to get to the bottom of the box to get the sheets out, I suggested a modified clamshell box with open sides (sometimes referred to as a French Tray).

This was my very first clamshell box, so I spent a bunch of time researching, mocking up and learning before I made this final box. There were still some bumps in the road, but the final box is something I'm immensely proud of.

Here is another of my latest case bound journals. Isn't this cover paper just stunning? The silver of the background leaves and the fine gold outlines are so eye catching.

This journal is a hefty one, with more pages than my usual journals. The inside is also made with a beautiful, laid finish specialty paper. A laid finish was originally created by the screens used while making handmade paper. These sheets are machine made, but they still have the very fine horizontal texture this style is known for. As well, this paper is made for use with fountain pens, so it's perfect for use with inks without bleeding through.

This double case bound journal set with a slip case is something I've wanted to make for a long, long time, but never had the courage to try.

I was afraid of failure, of wasting supplies on something that wouldn't work out. Of not living up to the pressures I put on myself. But with the appearance of the spring sun and the shoots of new green growth outside my window, I decided that I needed to try even if it all went horribly wrong.

But it didn't. It didn't go wrong. Instead it turned out better than I ever thought possible when it was just a scrap of an idea.

I'm very proud of what these two hands have made, and the potential for so much more yet to be tried.

I've been working on making more lined journals because people have said they prefer them. It nice sometimes to have the structure, especially when taking notes or writing down ideas. Now available is this cold press, watercolor journal. Working with watercolor paper is so different from any other paper I usually work with. This cold press paper especially. But it's great making these journals with a coptic stitch because they lay flat when opened.

I like imagining the kinds of beautiful spreads that an artist might come up with in one of my journals and it makes me happy.
