Utah Shakespeare Festival has officially announced its shows for 2020 and wow can we just talk about this image? The pictures for the rest of the shows are gorgeous too especially Pericles and Cymbeline but I just have a special appreciation for this one because...url?? There's so much thought put into all of these pictures down to the spiderweb background corresponding to Margaret and Elizabeth's exchanges in act 1 and act 4 ("Why strew'st thee sugar on that bottled spider whose deadly web ensnareth thee about?"/"O, thou didst prophesy the time would come that I should wish for thee to help me curse that bottled spider, that foul bunch-backed toad") and they all just look incredible.
no, professor, when I say I don’t think it’s realistic for Lady Anne to change her mind about Richard III in the course of one scene, I’m not criticizing her strength of character or calling her fickle, I’m saying the writing isn’t realistic. Shakespeare’s great, but he’s not sacrosanct - sometimes realistic character development goes by the wayside to advance the plot, and I’m allowed to think that.
I don’t need to think up an in-text justification for bad writing. Sometimes bad writing is just bad writing.
Sir Ian McKellen (Richard III for NTL 1980)
.
Richard III au where everything is the same except all of Margaret's lines are replaced with "fight me"
