Thank you so much to Em for the request! I’m really happy I finally got a chance to draw these two 🥰

For those who don’t know, Princess Zeisan was Fire Lord Sozin’s younger sister, and she was a nonbender and social activist who embraced Air Nomad philosophy. Sister Rioshon was an Air Nun from the Western Air Temple who took on Zeisan as a student and taught her chi-blocking. Over the course of Zeisan’s training, the two fell in love, but neither ever ended up voicing their feelings for each other. Truly star-crossed yuri… 😔

(Lowkey if Kya gets a temporary love interest in her comic I want it to be a Fire Nation one just to keep this pattern going)

Oh, Zeisan. My favourite messy-ass high femme lesbian.

I like to think that if her marriage to Khandro manages to go down without anyone dying or starting an international incident (*looks at Sozin*), baby girl would pull an Edward II of England (keeping Rioshon by her side as a supposed "teacher/guide", but we all know the truth). Like I heavily doubt that she wouldn't find a way to keep her fingers in Rioshon's pot. Girl is down bad in a way that you only read about in the Bible.

(You know what they say. Don't let your husband get in the way of finding your wife.)

Off topic, but Zeisan's fun little habit of folding for her teachers...........girl. Stand up! I can't get 100% behind her and Dalisay because there's a very real chance she could have around 12 or so when that situation happened and Dalisay may or may not have been an adult, so yikes. A young adult, but still an adult.

Also, how old even is Rioshon? I mean, for her to be so renowned, she had to be in the game for a while, right? An airbender can become a master at super young (Aang had his tattoos at 12 if I remember correctly), so the tattoos don't indicate age. But she just seems........older? Mature? In her design next to Zeisan, she looks like she could be in her late 20s, early 30s. Or she could be the same age as Zeisan, but just mature looking.

(Or more likely, they didn't think Zeisan's age range all the way through. Because if you calculate her age from the years they give for her possible birth years, she was anywhere from 12 to 15 years old when she was involved with Dalisay, whose age isn't given. I doubt Taiso would have allowed Zeisan to be tutored by anyone her age though. Maybe Dalisay was a bit older, but not a full adult? The Fire royals are deeply strange.

She's anywhere from 20 to 23 years old when she gets engaged and that means that she could have started her training under Rioshon from as young as 17. We don't know how long her training went on for, maybe a few months? Years? For her to get so wrapped up in the Air Nomad way of life, it's giving long term immersion.)

I'm just rambling, but Zeisan truly is the messy it-girl that the Roku era needs. Every Avatar era has a messy it-girl and the Roku era finally has one.

This is Princess Zeisan, for those who don't know. She was Sozin's non-bending sister, who fell in love with an Air Nomad. She was revealed recently as a part of the material for the Avatar Legends TTRPG.

She was renowed for her martial art skills (including chi-blocking) and became the teacher of Sozin's non-bending sister Princess Zeisan.

Zeisan, already uncontent with the ways of the Fire Nation royalty and incapable of becoming the Fire Lord due to her female and non-bender status, fell in love with the Air Nomad way of life...and with Rioshon.

She intended to swear off her earthly possessions in exchange for a life of austerity and became involved with the Guiding Wing, the anti-nobility renegade group of Air Nomads. She planned to have a political marriage with her close friend and ally and the group's leader, Khandro, to further their plans against the Fire Nation royalty.

But as a result of these politics, the love between the two women was not fully realized as Zeisan wished to focus on what she believed to be her life's mission to better the world and Rioshon wanted to respect her wishes. Rioshon still helped Zeisan from the shadows, being careful so their connection couldn't be used against Zeisan.

Zeisan also had a thing with her precious female tutor, so I guess she had a type.
