Post cannon Maruki during the events of strikers seeing Akira Morgona and Futaba out and about shopping and hes all excited because "oh hey their looking well! I should go say hi and apologize and stuff..." and then he notices another person with him and he slowly realizes its Akechi! And hes really excited because that means he was wrong about Akechi dying and that makes him so happy! Anyways as he goes to approach them as soon as Akechi spots him he just shoots him a stare that spooks this grown ass man to his bones that he ends up using Futaba as a human shield.
