RIP John Blanche, you will not be forgotton!!
Necron artwork by the late John Blanche. There's a distorted, distended quality to Blanche's anatomies which I find more and more in the later Necron models: the weird stuff like the Ophydians and Skorpekhs and especially Nekrosor Ammentar.
I'm gonna spend some quality time with this baby today, a huge repository containing some of John Blanche's best
80 bucks when it came out. I am very sad to report it is no longer available for 80 bucks. 😐
One more thing on the matter of Blanchitsu:
I can't draw. This was a thing I always felt when I was a kid. Terrible at still life. Watercoloured nyahahaha fantasy scenes while my grandmother painted the view out of the window. Nothing ever looked right.
It was only in my late twenties, when I picked up charcoal sketching as an experiment, that I realised ... I draw like John Blanche. Elongated, distorted forms, with a limited palette and a kind of fetishistic eye for character.
He wasn't my favourite Warhammer artist when I was a kid. I was a child of the Nineties: Mark Gibbons' and Kev Walker's crisp, gorgeous monochromatic rendering spoke to my soul back then.
After that moment of revelation, though?
I get it, now.
