Hey everyone, enjoy some Eddie and Christopher feels from the Rival Firefighters sequel 🚒 …
Eddie must drift off himself because the next time he opens his eyes, Buck is now sitting in the chair beside the bed, one hand typing on his phone, the other tangled loosely with Eddie’s fingers. Grounding. Steady.
A soft knock at the door pulls their attention toward it, Buck standing quickly, like he’d been expecting it.
Eddie’s heart jumps the second the door opens.
For one suspended second Eddie can only stare.
Chris looks smaller than he remembers from a week ago—crutches tucked under his arms, curls a little mussed, eyes already shining before they lock onto Eddie.
The rubber tips of his crutches squeak against the tile as he hurries across the room. Buck shifts out of the way without a word, one hand hovering for balance if Chris needs it, but Chris barely seems to notice anything except Eddie.
Eddie pushes past the dull ache in his shoulder and sits up straighter, his left arm opening just in time to catch Chris as he reaches him.
“Careful,” Shannon whispers, placing a hand on Chris’s back.
But Chris doesn’t need the reminder, leaning in with a gentleness that breaks Eddie in half, his small arms wrapping around Eddie’s uninjured side, head pressing to his chest. The feeling of Chris in his arms —warm and whole—unravels something inside of him. He buries his face in Chris’s curls, breathing in the familiar, comforting scent of his son, letting it anchor him.
God, he almost lost this.
The weight of Christopher in his arms.
The steady thump of his heart against Eddie’s ribs.
Eddie’s chest aches so sharply it almost steals his breath. He closes his eyes and swallows hard, trying to keep his voice steady. “Hey, mijo.”
