Sometimes luck had a way of balancing things out.  In a rush that morning, Sejeong had left her apartment, still half awake and not used to the early mornings at the company, forgetting her water bottle on the counter.  She hadn’t realized it until partway through the day when she went to get a drink on her break, only to find that it wasn’t there.  Her mind flashed back to her steps that morning and realized right where it was.  With a sigh, she went out to her locker, grabbing some money, and then out to one of the vending machines. 

Pressing the button for a bottle of water, the machine whirred like it was going to dispense it, but then nothing came out. Furrowing her brow, she pressed the button again, and this time, she was surprised to hear two thuds.  Reaching in, she pulled out two bottles of water.  Quite happy with this, she returned to the studio to see if she could find someone else who was taking a break to share with.

Spotting one of the male trainees, Sejeong came over with a big smile and plopped down next to him, holding out the second bottle to him. “Hey there, I’m Sejeong and you look like you could rehydrate.  This is yours if you want it,” she said, bottle in hand.

he nervously held his own hands, squeezing them like he could somehow gather more energy from something that was already part of him. the boy wasn’t exactly nervous, but it wasn’t like you could very easily get rid of all your nerves before any kind of performance. he was the type to study all day long and still have doubts if he’d do well or not in an exam, so why wouldn’t he have been the same when it came to evaluations?

it may have sounded weird but jihoon wasn’t exactly the best at snapping, so just as much as he had practiced his singing the boy also spent his time snapping his fingers. maybe practice really did make perfect but his snaps still often came out sort of faded one time or another. they were in a group of five, so hopefully it wouldn’t be something to worry too much about. he could always just work on that skill afterward.

his voice, though, was something more urgent. as the time passed by and warned him of how close it was to his part, jihoon’s stomach tightened under his skin. after all those discourses on breathing techniques, he wasn’t too sure if that feeling would be any good for his performance. still, he barely had any actual lines, so he quickly picked up his breath before singing. the few lines didn’t come out as perfectly as he had practiced, but they also didn’t have any sort of big failures. it was probably a matter of experience and jihoon would have to work hard to get any better at it.

still, his job wasn’t done. the song was heavily involved with harmonizations, and since he didn’t have any more main lines then he needed to serve as a back vocal. wow.

the sense of betrayal eats at him the entire morning as he goes through the motions, creasing his brows, pulling his lips into a frown. it’s not a sense of betrayal at anyone else, however, but one at himself. how dare he not know it was his friend’s birthday?

belated birthday greetings, chanyeol feels, are always well-meant and well-received, but they’re just not the same as those given on the actual date, or even better, right at midnight. it’s why he always greets his mother and brothers at twelve on the dot in los angeles time. the fact that he’s now searching for dokyeom during the lunch hours three whole days after his birthday has him sulking, shoulders sagging as he roams the halls of trc.

finally, he spots his target and, even if the guilt eats at him inside, he knows birthday greetings should always be given with the greatest sincerity and joy, even belated ones. so with a great inhale, five or six balloons tied around his neck, a bow tied around his face, a gift in his hands and above that, his trademark bento box, he makes his way toward the familiar figure, whooping out, “happy birthday, lee dokyeom!!”

stretching her arms above her head, sic lets out a long yawn, full from eating as she walks down the hallway to one of the practice rooms. she wipes at her eyes, scratches at her neck and ducks her head, humming a tune. digging her hand into her pocket, she tugs out her phone and glances over it, swiping away the notifications she doesn’t want to deal with at the moment and reading over the ones she cares about. her eyes flicker upwards, feet pausing when she sees the back of someone-- a sweatshirt on the form that sic swears to the high heavens is familiar in someway.

and then she grins, wide and wolfish-- pocketing her phone as she stalks to them quietly. if she recognizes the shirt, than of course she knows them, right? sic isn’t wrong (not usually). crouched a bit, she takes several quiet and slow steps until she’s closer, and then she lets out a small scream and jumps on their back, wrapping her arms around their neck. 

“i got you!” she shouts with a laugh, pushing her head forward and leaning towards them-- until the smile slips off her face and she stares at her face that is, familiar, but very unfamiliar at the same time. “oh. uh. you-- oh my god you’re not who i thought you were.”

sic thought it had been yuta, or jaebum, or youngjae or someone else; this one she knows but she’s so unfamiliar with them that this is very weird and definitely strange. scrambling off their back, she lets out a soft laugh, sheepish and utterly embarrassed. “wow. uh. this is-- fucking awful. wow, uh. not you-- just. sorry, i definitely...thought you were someone else...”

Space was something Yuta believed in when someone seemed upset about something. Just enough for them to sort their heads out. Even if he didn’t know for sure, Yuta had noticed Dokyeom had been a little off since the Sphere announcement. From what he knew of Ten and Dokyeom, it didn’t have much to do with a lost friendship -- and that left the last assumption to be that the other male had tried out and not made it. A few people had been like that. 

The sting of rejection was never easy to talk about, so when Yuta approached Dokyeom, he lazily reached out to pat the other trainees back in greeting.

“Yo, what’s up?” An English greeting rolling from his lips with a smile, tilting his head and looking around the studio. He assumed Dokyeom was training; it’s what Yuta would have done if he were in the same position. Train until he could prove he deserved it more than anyone else, just so when he stood on that stage in the future -- Sphere would regret their decision. “Need any help?” He asked, fingers curling on Dokyeom’s shoulder loosely as he let his arm hand there and studied the other boys expression.

@rkdokyeom Honestly Kang Joon didn't wanted to bother other trainees by asking them to perform with him. It seemed like most people knew well who they wanted to be with. Evaluations were meant to bring out the best in the trainees after all. Skillwise. The male sighed. These days he felt like people tended to ignore him more than listening to what he got to ask or say. It was as if he was nonexistent to them. But well, with a strong performance the struggle would fade away. They would see him, hear him. So the Royal trainee was thankful for one of his instructors to introduce him to a TRC trainee he thought of when pairing Kang Joon up. When they first met in the presence of the instructors, he was pretty impressed of the other trainee. Tall and strong and good looking he perfectly fitted to be trainee. Even though he was surprised that the other didn't teamed up with others without the instructors help. Maybe Kang Joon wasn't the only one to know the struggle. With a light bow he threw the other a smile while greeting him and introducing him a smile. "Hello, my name is Lee Seunghwan. Call me Kang Joon if you want. Nice to meet you." There wasn't much time to get to know the new friend and to plan a performance. But somehow they would manage.

innate brighter than light personality breeds itself in first encounter situations. a smile here, a cheerful greeting there, and she finally roots a temporary within-the-day fixture in the life of whomever she dared approach. in cases where she gets to see the other person in a day-to-day basis, she exerts extra effort. meaning straying along the conversation far longer than necessary with hopes to get to know the other personally. 

it’s been about a month and more ( yes, she’s highly aware ) since the new trainees filtrated the company. since then, she’s established some comfortable friendships. although satisfaction is hard to come by -- it’s like she can’t be sated unless she’s met them all.

so when opportunity presents itself, she’s bound to take it. 

red hair sways from the constraints of her ponytail as she heads for him. in an unoccupied practice room, she stands in front of him with a gracious smile. “hey! i hope i’m not imposing myself here but i don’t think we’ve met yet!” she starts, natural charm in full effect. “i’m joy and between you and me, i’d like to make it a mission to meet everybody.”
