roommates are supposed to close, audrey thinks. she’s never really had a roommate before (that she wasn’t related to), but she wants to be the best actual roommate she can be. but when they return that night after katie lee’s feedback on their evaluation showcase, audrey is shaken. it feels like when she gave her everything and put all her energy into preparations this month, that it’s not good enough; it’s a reminder of the insecurity that she’s not good enough, and then they’re told to work on just what katie lee sees as their biggest fault, and audrey, sore throat and all, really feels like crying. 

taeyeon enters their shared bedroom in the midst of the self-doubting thoughts that cloud her, and audrey hurries to wipe her eyes and bring the book that she had been working on to a rest in front of her. “hey,” she offers a small smile at the younger, sniffing just slightly. “how are you holding up after.... that?”

taeyeon has been on her mind lately, partially because the younger has always seemed more worrisome and capable of doubting herself than the others do. maybe it’s silly to feel a little responsible for making sure that taeyeon’s okay, but lately sooyoung has been reminded that she is the eldest, which would technically make it her job, even if they weren’t friends. and who knows, maybe it’ll be good for them both to talk- sooyoung to stop isolating herself and for taeyeon to know that she does have a friend in her. 

when she finds her, she only hesitates enough to knock politely on the door of the practice room before entering. “taeyeon-ah~” she smiles, having poked her head in the doorway first to see if she’s alone. “have i found the kim taeyeon’s private practice room? i might faint. i’m standing where a legendary singer has stood.” sooyoung clutches her chest as if the idea might cause her to faint before laughing. “i just wanted to see what you were up to lately.”

⭐️NOVA ENTERTAINMENT EVALUATION performing la la latch by pentatonix ft. eve, hyungwon, inho, jinyoung, luna & taeyeon march 2018

he knew he joined an already formed group when inho accepted him and at first he did feel out of place. he was the least experienced of the bunch when it came to evaluations and training, plus he had no idea who 95% of these trainees were. he only ever met hyungwon before, and talked to inho when he wanted into the team. the rest, he met during practice. had he known it would be this intimidating, he probably would have gone with more familiar faces, but part of being a trainee meant taking risks, and not always stick to what was comfortable.

he was assigned fewer parts and he did not mind. he knew his skills were enough but they were all seniors and so he didn’t expect to be thrown under the spotlight, nor did he necessarily want to either. he decided to take it as an opportunity to learn and observe, not having extensive knowledge about harmonization. he did get the hang of it rather quickly, his tone mixing with theirs in a beautiful manner. going acapella meant the only instrument they could rely on was their voice, and they had to be in complete harmony in order for it to sound good.

to say he was nervous on the day of the evaluation was an understatement; jinyoung was an enormous, walking ball of stress when he found himself in front of the coaches. all he wanted was to perform exactly as practiced, or even better, and not let the team down. he thought about his peers’ advice, trying to remember all of his cues, all of the vocalizations he needed to do. they had to be able to rely on him fully, as he would rely on them. jinyoung took a deep breath, glancing at the others once they started humming in unison to accompany taeyeon’s “la la la”s.

at that very moment, he felt like he was finally part of the team.

Wendy’s not going to lie. She has been dependent on ginger tea and lots of vitamin C to keep her voice intact with all the singing she’ll be doing tonight. She’s flattered that the coaches trust her and her skills enough to include her in special stages besides the performances with her unnies at Nova. She likes to think that maybe she has grown and improved in the year and a half she’s been with the company. She isn’t certain how much growing she has done and still has to do, but she wants to keep doing well to earn the coaches faith in her to do more.   

It’s always fun performing with Kaeun unni, Hyuna unni, and Min sunbaenim. This also marks the first performance with Suji unni. Wendy may have been more of a “loop The Nutcracker Suite in lieu of Christmas carols” type of girl, but she had developed a soft spot for the first song she’s performing for the night. Ariana Grande’s “Santa Tell Me” is relatable, in a way that she hopes that a person she’d have a crush on would still be around next year. She can’t get anyone to stay, case and point: Toshi and Minhyun oppa. (To be fair, Minhyun oppa did shoot her down on Day 1, but he was always there as an older brother slash handsome friend to her). 

There’s also the unspoken pressure that she has to do well to represent Nova in the joint collaboration with the girls from other companies. It’s an honor to share the stage with three MGA season three coaches from different companies. Rumor had it that the girls she was performing with were the among the best trainee vocalists in their respective companies. She had heard three of them sing back at the MGAs, and she had even shared a stage with Taeyeon sunbaenim. However, it still doesn’t stop her from being impressed whenever she hears them sing in practice, and every day she wonders what she did in her past life to be worthy of standing and singing on the same stage with some respected senior trainees. 

There seems to be an unspoken agreement among the females of Nova that they would all rather die than do aegyo. However, when push came to shove and their backs were against the wall, there was a surprising reveal of aegyo skills. Min sunbaenim was a revelation of sorts to Wendy, that she found herself taking notes on how to pull it off as naturally as Min sunbaenim did. If she respected Min sunbaenim before, then Wendy’s respect grew even more. It takes talent to pull off aegyo and be cute without being cringe-worthy. Wendy hopes and prays that her cutesy acting and smiling onstage didn’t come across as laughable. It took her hours to practice e expressions in front of the mirror between study breaks. 

Finally, there was the final stage. It’s been long since she got to share a stage with Yeri, one of her long-time best friends. She also recognizes the two boys: one of them is the one with Soojung a lot while the other was one of those attractive faces she accepted a Royal flyer from. During practice, they realized that they who got solo lines were the youngest trainees of their respective companies. Wendy almost wants to laugh at the irony of it all, yet it also makes sense.  The program ends with a Disney song... and that they youngest kids lead it. As much Wendy has professed to banning anyone within her vicinity from singing this song when the movie first came out, it has grown on her. Oh... if her other friends could see her now. (She bets Seulgi and Joy are giggling somewhere as they remember her screams of agony when she got sick of the song). They’d probably be laughing at her for singing the song she once loathed. 

As she and Dongmin sing the last line, Wendy lets out a sigh of relief. It’s over... They did well enough to entertain the people at the plaza. Maybe... just maybe... she’s on the right track in this whole idol thing after all.

he didn’t think he’d do this song ever again, but with recent events he was already going over the choreo without any problem. he always found it to be really fun how he remembered it perfectly. 

however, this time around, jihoon had put a pair of heels, which didn’t quite match with the cap he had on his head, but he’d live with it. he wasn’t all about the aestetics recently and he just wanted to have fun with this birthday present and hope that tiffany see’s it, /if not he’d send her a text or something about it/.

he stood in the center of the room, where he usually filmed his dances and focused on the water bottle that was placed for a center. he was a bit nervous, since it was his first cover with him in heels, but he was pretty sure he wouldn’t get hurt, and kt wouldn’t mind it either. he hoped kt wouldn’t mind it either, considering the stunt he pulled with his private audition.

soon the music start to play and jihoon was instantly in character that fit the song. most people he knew that watched his videos were usually amazed at how he looked while dancing compared to his little moody and savage self in real life. it was simple. he didn’t have multiple personalities, he just knew how he looked good and was professional and keeping an image.

katie lee was a huge rolemodel to him, mainly because she did what she wanted and she was just amazing at doing it. she was legend, and he’d actually fight people who disagreed with that. it somewhat made him feel proud, while dancing this song, and he was able to dance in front of her and it made him want to work even harder.

but his thoughts shifted to kt fully. he could multi task really well, the fact that he could have a full on conversation with someone on the phone while streaming in front of hundreds, sometimes thousands if he was lucky, and not die, he counted himself as a god at multi tasking. so thinking back to kt, he was amazed at how many amazing people he met there. 

starting with the fact that he knew no one to begin with. in kt, he knew no one unlike all the other companies. he knew almost everyone in trc due the fact that he was there before, in sphere he knew half of their trainee’s due them being his closest friends ever. he knew wendy in nova, and was sure he;d annoy the shit out of the girl, and in royal he knew jaehyung. so starting in kt without knowing anyone was definitely a challenge to an introvert like him.

but things quickly changed, a lot faster than he thought they would. joining with an evaluation, made bonding a lot quicker rather than eating lunch alone and stressing over which trainee should i join in a group during dance practice. he had jimin, aron, gary, woohyun to bond with off the bat, he bumped into taemin so randomly and blurted out the weirdest thing possible, taeyeon ran into him by accident and it was cute. 

 tiffany approached him during lunch time and as soon as he learned it was her birthday on the 1st, he felt the need to do this song again, just in her honor. 

with the song reaching the break down, jihoon had to focus a bit more just to make sure everything was perfect, and so far it looked good. he didn’t go out of character, didn’t slip, trip or fall over, he was doing very well that he even allowed himself to sing along with the audio. he knew he’d edit it out, put the actual song over but when it finished, he took a few seconds to regain his breath before running to the camera and grinning widely. 

“happy birthday noona.“ he said before the vidoe finished.

          heaven wasn’t happy. just one glance up towards the sky reveals that fact to her as darkening clouds become dismally more gray by the second. not just one temperamental cloud either, unfortunately, but the entire seoul sky looks painted with an ominous brush as hyeri stares. the rain drops are soon to follow, pricking her sweating skin with stinging pellets of coldness to make the dancer shiver in repulsion.

          “unnie!” she whines childishly at taeyeon. it’s less than two minutes before they’re scheduled to dance again and hyeri’s reluctance surfaces with a frown souring her expression. she practically hops over to where the older is and clings to the sleeve of their company-given shirts. “it’s raining.” loathing is infused into the pronouncement and hyeri points back at the sky, huffing loudly. “i can’t believe this!”
