byler doubt. let’s talk about it. “the evidence is all there” except it’s Not.

i’m not saying it’s not endgame, i genuinely believe it is. but, take, for example, the robin speech, bc that’s one of the hottest topics right now.

as a byler when i first watched the unreciprocated shove -> tammy thompson series of scenes… i thought we were cooked. on a first time viewing, that read as anti-byler to me. i’m not saying it WAS, because after intense analyzation i definitely perceive it as byler. but i DIDN’T when i first saw that, and i truly believe it’s because the writers are being intentionally vague. i really seriously do. we aren’t SUPPOSED to know endgame yet, even if it’s increasingly clear. it was WRITTEN. VAGUELY. undeniably so, since we manage to keep talking about it.

i am once again on my soapbox to say it’s Okay to doubt things that you don’t know for sure to be true. that’s healthy. yes, analyzing is critical thinking, but SO IS SEEING OTHER POSSIBILITIES THAT THE WRITERS MAY TRY TO TAKE.

again, this isn’t even byler doubt, i BELIEVE that it’s endgame… but it’s okay to be concerned (unless that concern is taking over your life.)

For any bylers still active after season 5

I love byler fanfics, I really do. I’ve been reading so many and creating my own since season 5 ended. I love these beautifully written fics that have kept me happy, giggling and full. You all are truly brilliant, amazing writers, thank you so much.

But occasionally I think back to the canon in the show I’ve been avoiding and refusing to believe. I start to think how to actual hell did it go so wrong? I think about the epilogue, Dustin’s speech about conformity (which the show loves now?) and so many character endings. I think about in the epilogue how when Steve, Robin, Nancy and Jonathan were all talking about their lives Robin shared little to nothing. What happened to Vickie? What was the point of Robins speech? Will and Mike flirting in the field? All the build up and for what? What are we doing to them? Why are we forgetting about our queer characters? And Mike. Oh Mike oh my god his ending when I think about the canon ending of his character it’s so sad, so depressing. What did they do to him? And for what?

It’s 2026, the finale released on New Years Eve, no better time for change. But no. I feel empty when I think of it. If you can’t handle your queer characters then DONT WRITE THEM. We deserved better and they know that. Let the gay characters get their truest happy ending, let Mike Wheeler admit his feelings, let El be free( she ended up being free ik but she deserved better).

Did it make you feel good Duffers knowing you were going to make queer kids CRY on Christmas and New Years. I felt numb by the end of it. We shouldn’t have to go back to fanfiction. I don’t care I’m tired of it, all of it.

I was looking for the answers in somebody else but I had all the answers.
