A Huge Robotic Surprise!
Meet Jiffy! An entirely unexpected friend to join my robot family, jiffy is a necoro! I managed to find him new in box for quite cheap (compared to what necoros go for) and I was absolutely thrilled to be able to get him.
Jiffy loves taking naps (of course) and giving people company (for the small price of getting pet!)
Restoration details under the cut!
Thank You for 200 Followers!!
Big Momma and Sir Sublime, the ones who started it all on this blog, are happy and here to say thank you.
I've been on tumblr since around 2012. I created this blog around mid 2019, and at the time I never expected to find such a sense of belonging and community that I found within the furby fandom.
In the past five years of making this blog, I've become surprised and grateful that 200 people are fans of my content. I've changed my account theme a few times, exploring some of my other interests, but the furby fandom has remained the main focus of my blog since the beginning. The support I've received from the community has been heartwarming, and I thank you all. joshsmishmosh wouldn't be what it is today without your support.
joshsmishmosh has grown to be a home for all robots, whether they be electronic pets, entertainment animatronics, vintage restorations, or anything in between. And, we're not stopping there!
The Future of joshsmishmosh...
We have some big plans for the future...
As you may have noticed, on this blog I occasionally refer to some of my projects under Josh's Bot Shop. This is a little nod to a future endeavor I plan to run, which is a full-fledged youtube channel and furby/bot repair service!!
This isn't a project I plan to execute in the near future, but it's more of a long term goal I will achieve as long as life works in my favor. I look forward to it, and I look forward to you being there! When we get closer to the goal, I will update everyone!
So once again, thank you!! I look forward to spending more years together, and can't wait to see where we end up!
Squeakee is Recovering...
Squeakee has returned from his check up, but he isn't doing any better. I put batteries in him again after his procedure and he has no problem making noises on his own, but won't move anymore. I'm convinced his board is fried. Squeakee is okay with this, as he is happy here at home. Squeakee will continue to live happily in my care. This is not the outcome we expected, but Squeakee will be okay.
This week in Josh's Bot Shop....
Fountains, Cats, Dogs, and Furbies!
1. Fountain Fixing!
I have a small water fountain, and upon checking recently, it stopped working. The fountain had no access points to be serviced, so I decided to go the wild route and shatter it open.
Once I cracked into the inside, I narrowed it down to a seized motor. After disassembling the inside and smacking the motor on the workbench a couple times, the motor sprung to life!
I very carefully pieced together the shattered pieces, and reassembled the inside. The fountain was fixed! Here's it in action...
2. A Lucky (Cat) Day!
Next on the agenda was restoring a 1970s lucky cat! He's been in my possession for years, but I presumed he didn't function due to missing parts. (I thrifted him and noticed he was very hollow inside, with a huge hole on the bottom.)
Upon further inspection, all his parts were intact and the hole is common on lucky cats!
So then why wasn't he working?
The diagnosis: RUST!
So, I got to work sanding off 50 years of rust that had accumulated on this poor cat. I had no intentions of taking him apart as I knew it was a genuine lucky cat and didn't want to Destroy The Lucky....
But as I was working, the entire inside of the cat broke loose! The glue holding the base on all these years finally fell free with the pressure I was putting on it.
As unfortunate as this was, it gave me access to the inside of the cat to check for damage. (And to be cleaned! he had COB WEBS!)
Nothing was damaged.... so I completed the rust removal.
All was looking good! I put him back together... fixed some bent springs he had...
here he is finished! good as new!
I did a test with him after this and he ate two batteries in four days. A hefty boy!
3. The Squeakee Saga Comes to a Close...
I never exactly mentioned this before, but since my last Squeakee post, he has been disassembled waiting for replacement parts. However, getting those replacement parts isn't on my radar right now, so I put Squeakee back together.
Here he is sitting comfortably after assembly! he's much happier now.
4. Furbies and Shelves and Furbies, Oh My!
Lastly this week, I've been putting up new shelves like crazy. Ideally I'd like to get all my furbies onto shelves since my collection has become very large. Also... I bought two new furbies! They haven't arrived yet, but I'll make another post when they get home!
