The Roman-era tombs are in a canyon wall.

So they knew about the site, generally, before, but had never fully investigated it. I wondered, because 400 previously unknown tombs is A LOT to find all at once.

Stash of more than 600 Roman-era silver coins discovered in Turkey

The coins are about 2,100 years old.

Interesting that this was found in the bank of a stream. I may have mentioned this before, but Richard Bradley’s done some work on the find spots of this kind of deposit, in A Geography of Offerings. Very interesting work.
