"SHARED ROOTS (UNITY THREATENS INEQUITY)"
by El Mac
Growing up in South Central LA, familiar with the area's lack of fresh produce, Ron Finley says he knows what it's like to drive 45 minutes for a fresh tomato. Nine years ago Finley, aka the Gansta Gardener started planting the city-owned parkways as an act of protest and in the intervening years has become a community leader. At the beginning of 2019 internationally renowned LA artist Miles MacGregor, aka El Mac, created this labor of love at Washington Blvd and San Pedro St. Juxtaposed to the left of Finley in this carefully thought out statement about black–brown conflict in South Central and the shared challenges facing the communities in the face of a widening wealth-gap is Rigoberto Jimenez Oropeza who began his activism with the United Farm Workers many years ago after being exposed to pesticides in the California orange groves. @mac_arte/ @ronfinleyhq/
