When I open my eyes and you're the one I find I will be yours and you'll be mine
Hello and happy Valentine's Day! 💞💖💌
You were one of two peeps I saw who put Roo Panes on your conversation hearts wishlist and that made me so happy to see him, bc I really love his work but am still getting familiar with it too! My favorite songs of his are "The Land of the Living" and "The Sun Will Rise Over The Year" for sure but there are a lot of his songs that are like .. more musically subdued yet the poetry of the lyrics is just 🔥 and I am learning to love those too (like the description of forgiveness of hurt as stains to wash away and bruises to heal, bc "we both lose" without grace in "Peace Be With You" 🥺)
I also listened to the In the Willows album and it's so precious. The titles are fantastic and the music lovely. My favorite track is probably "The River Bank" - that one is just particularly pleasing to listen to and does really have that vibe to it. 👏 I've also never actually finished reading The Wind in the Willows so I need to get on that someday. XD
Loved seeing your recommendations, thank you for sharing them! 😊❤️
Happy late Valentine's Day!
Yesss a fellow new fan of Roo Panes! This event has introduced me to so many new-to-me songs of his, and "Peace Be With You" is one of them. His poetry is just So Good 🥹
Oh I'm so glad you liked In the Willows! "The River Bank" is absolutely lovely. Let me know if you finish Wind in the Willows!! I love that book immoderately — its explorations of what home is and means, its glimpses of the transcendent, its celebrations of ordinary life...
You know the sentiment is shared! 😁

You can say it’s mine and clench your fist / Or see each sunrise as a gift и так далее.
We don't bleed, when we don't fight /Go ahead, go ahead/Throw your arms in the air tonight.
And all the storms you've been chasing/ About to rain down tonight.
(You sing to me of sweet revelation - лишь один из примеров).
Nightjar and the Nightingale by Roo Panes is like an excerpt from Gansey’s journal that he knew Blue would end up reading
But you can't be an old fire If you are burning with a new flame So remember that You are never a forgotten name Cause I know a land called The land of the living It's the world beyond those curtains Where we learned to play I hear the voices of my childhood singing It's the world beyond those doorways Where we use to play cause every moment Is a chance to define what you want to become You're not a slave to things you've done Be brave and be bold Be childish and old it's the same old story Every life needs a hope of glory
Land of the living, Roo Panes
Find A Song that finds the artist communicating with his younger self
Roo Panes - Letter to the Boy
The new track finds the British folk songwriter in a reflective mood, communicating to a younger version of himself while offering reassurance and calm:
"The song as a whole is a reflection on things you would say to the “boy” you. Explaining a few of the hurdles and then finishing with the question “now you know - will you go?” The scene is set on an idealistic ivory shore that actually came as an image to me one night. It was a dark stormy sky with a child holding a candle hopefully, sheltering the flame against the wind, and I wrote into that. It reminded me of some of the beaches in north Scotland - so it kind of kickstarted a trip we took up to the Scottish isles for writing the album.”
Opening with a plaintive fingerpicked guitar, 'Letter To The Boy' quickly sees Roo Panes’ commanding voice taking centre stage. There’s a subtle confidence to the simplicity of the arrangement; a dedication to serving the song with atmospheric flourishes that complement but never distract from the heart of everything.

She was lying in the sun
In the quiet corner where the river runs
Well, I went inside and I wrote the words
I just love you
