Man where did the Secret Shanghai fandom go. I miss you guys
Officially beaten the Rosalind Lang curse (I turned 20 today)
No and I do kinda get why Rosalind ended up betraying the Scarlet Gang bc imagine, you see this horrid monster, get chased down by it, it’s the middle of the night I mean literally nothing scarier and then she wanders into White Flower territory where she almost gets killed again like damn let her get up. You tell your closest friends/family about it, and I love Juliette and Kathleen and they were obviously solving the problem just in different ways but I can see how she felt alone and somewhat neglected, bc they didn’t offer her much support emotionally and this obviously ends up manifesting itself in a more physical way. And on top of experiencing this near death encounter, which again I think would seriously do damage to your mental stability, she wanted to be a part of something and she wanted to help the cause of finding the monster. She just wanted to be useful and to have a greater purpose than just to sit pretty and watch the world revolve around her. And when she tried to step in and say “hey you know I can help I saw what it looked like and I want to help get to the bottom of it if only for the sake of my mentality.” She was once more reduced to pretty little Rosalind. And I’m pretty sure this was not the first time that this probably had happened. She was obviously kind of jealous of Kathleen in the way that she had a purpose and was trusted to be Juliette’s right hand. So of course she ended up rebelling and seeking solace in Dimitri(ugh) who at least made her feel like she was a part of something bigger in the world. She also had the simple but terrible case of “I can fix him” like no bby he’s far past saving and even if he wasn’t he wouldn’t want to change. But again, she wanted to make a difference. And I respect her and I see her for that with so much love.
So anyways yes I’m very excited to start foul lady fortune :)
If anyone is still active on Secret Shanghai Tumblr Fandom:
I was listening to the FHH audiobook (falling back down the rabbithole) and did we ever learn why Juliette lent out her needle-point knives in chapter 20?
It's left unclear but maybe I'm just forgetting something. It's been a while.
chloe gong was so right for having a protagonist who was so riddled with guilt and shame and then have her learn that she can be forgiven and she cannot take care of everything and i love love love rosalind lang
roma, juliette, ben, mars, celia, rosalind, and alisa whenever someone mentions the year 1927
ALERT ALERT ALERT
