hello!! 26, 28 and 29 for ao3 wrapped? :D
26) What’s your most common category?
This year, it's M/M with five works, and hot on its heels is Multi at four works. This tracks, because I've mostly written an all-male threesome and also detoured into an F/M/M one for a couple of fics.
28) Favorite work you wrote this year?
Augh, this is always hard because how do I rank my darlings? The annoying truth is that I may always be most in love with a fic while I'm writing it, because the process with all its ups and downs is so important to me. I get to make things out of nothing! I put words one after the other and something springs into existence. That is, when J.R.R. Tolkien called writing "lower creation", I sort of feel that in my bones.
It is a love-hate relationship, though, as anyone I write with can attest. Writing truly is the best and worst hobby at the same time.
But for a real answer, maybe the fox came down the mountain, my little sidestep into feihua from writing the ot3. It made me stretch my writing muscles, but in a pleasant way, and came out surprisingly faithful to the initial idea I had for it. It feels satisfyingly complete as a short story, too.
29) Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
I answered this here, but I don't mind picking another one, of course. 💕 here's a favourite bit from the taste of pomegranates, then:
In dire straits, all three of them act as gears in one of Fang Duobing's graceful contraptions, working smoothly together. However, in their everyday lives, there's an ease and a sweetness between [Fang Duobing and Li Lianhua] that Di Feisheng would strain if he stepped into it. An unconditional acceptance that might not extend to him. He has to clear his throat before his voice obeys. "You don't need to treat me like Li Xiangyi. We're not the same." Fang Duobing lays his fingertips on Di Feisheng's jaw, like that light brush is all he dares. "What do you mean?" "I..." He can't choke now. "I will carry what I've done. It's not your burden." "That's not at all what I was saying." Fang Duobing's gaze is adamant. "Isn't it? I do keep things from you, little tiger." "Don't distract me," Fang Duobing murmurs—a non sequitur that Di Feisheng lets slide—and clasps Di Feisheng's face in his palm. "I know you're not the same as him. But I love you. You, in particular. Not just because of Li Lianhua." Di Feisheng holds very still. Waits for the rest to unfurl like a judgment. Waits, again, to understand.
