No surprise that Jon Favreau reached out to Roy Choi to come up with an actual sandwich for a scene in The Mandalorian and Grogu. It was great seeing these guys cook together again. I need to rewatch The Chef Show.

P.S. I'm betting some sauteed kimchi might be a nice substitute for the grilled onions.

This just popped up on my IG explore page. Now I'm imagining Pedro having Grogu try some Chilean foods.

Grogu had been after his dad for a while to take the N-1 down to Chile and so he could get some of the most delicious empanadas that had ever been described to him, but the Mandalorian had no ability to speak Spanish. Sadly, that the was same for his ability to learn Spanish. Grogu offered to do all the talking, but even Pedro cautioned that some of the folks down there might find that a bit unusual.

Grogu pouted for a while and then his dad asked the most sensible question, 'Where did the production assistant find the stuff you two ate in that video?'

It was an excellent question. Unfortunately, Pedro didn't have an excellent answer. He had no idea. He supposed that there must have been a Chilean restaurant nearby. That's when the Mandalorian asked the actor where they'd done the interview. The response was less than helpful. 'L.A.?'

'Hey, why don't we just have Roy hook you two up? He knows everyone in the restaurant industry around here. He's bound to have some friends who make Chilean food.'

Thank goodness for Jon. He's so clear thinking and direct.

'Okay, but he's not talking to me. I made the mistake of saying that El Mercado had a really great quesadilla during another interview and I didn't say anything about Roy's sweet chili rib quesadilla and well... I told him I'm sorry.'

Uff! Pedro! How could you upset one of Grogu's best friends?! Now he was never going to get to each a perfect Chilean empanada or their fabulous bread, or that caldillo de congrio? Grogu loved fish stews of all sorts and he's seen a recipe for this one that use Chilean Sea Bass. Uff! He loved Chilean Sea Bass!

'It's okay, kid. I'll smooth it over. Which means that Pedro will be wearing the armor in an extra scene in the movie. We'll put it in the end credits. I'll just have Roy send over one of everything he makes and 'Mando' can eat it on camera.'

'Sounds like a plan.'

Grogu's dad was laughing because Pedro was just shaking his head an apologizing to his waistline for the change that was coming. For his part, Grogu was just happy that he was that much closer to trying a delicious empanada. He might even share some of it with his dad for a change. This is the Way, right?

Kogi was about five days away from going bankrupt because, with the pandemic, we lost everything. I could have fallen into the trap of all that word salad stuff — by cutting jobs and basically trying to get the water out with a bucket — or I could have doubled down and said, fuck it, if we’re going down, let’s go down the way we started. Let’s feed as many people as possible and give everything away. And by doing that, it saved Kogi. There’s currency and value in caring for each other.
