cheryl marcella haze was born to a single mother on january 10th, 1939, in the city of chicago. she never met her father, nor has any idea of who he is / was.
her mother passed away when she was still a child, leaving cheryl homeless for nearly a year. it was after that almost one year that she met william haze.
william had caught cheryl finding herself in trouble with the owner of a candy shop in downtown chicago for attempting to steal a snack or two. he stood up for the girl, claiming to be her father --- which eventually became true. william took cheryl under his wing, finding that the girl had a natural talent for street savoir faire.
the man taught her everything he’d learned over nearly twenty years of conning others; it had granted him a rather pleasant lifestyle, as one would think of him as some sort of billionaire at first glance. with his guidance, cheryl learned to be prim and proper, while also being able to see through people and getting herself close to them. close enough to take what she wanted and move on from it.
flash forward to today: cheryl’s typical con is that of finding her way into people’s hearts, only to leave them when the time is right. she enjoys the feeling of being wanted, of having someone put her above all else. unfortunately, it didn’t go as planned the last time. after getting herself involved with the wrong man, the woman is currently hiding at el royale, hoping to find a way out of the situation before the ex - lover finds her.

MEET THEODORE CARR -- former executive vice president to one of america’s top luxury cruise ship lines. he may act debonair and eloquent, but he wasn’t born into old money. his father was a car salesman, while his mother was a part time housewife, part time avon lady. his ambition, intelligence, and charm, were what careened him into a life of opulence.
his downfall was an act of envy.
the night before thanksgiving, he woke up to his brother’s blood-curdling scream. in theo’s hand was a bloodied knife, and beside him was his sister-in-law’s cold body. his brother accused him for his wife’s murder, calling it an act of passion, saying theo had always wanted to have his way with her, but he snapped after her honest-to-goodness conscience wouldn’t let him.
it was the other way around.
darlene had long lusted after him, even before she married charles. but theo was too obsessed with his rise to power to acknowledge her blaring flirtation. charles had long envied his younger brother -- he always smarter, richer, more popular with the ladies, including his very own wife. it was charles who finally snapped. it was charles who killed his own wife. and as if to hit two birds with one stone, he put all blame on his brother -- made sure he left no fingerprints as he moved darlene’s body beside theo’s sleeping form, then left his murder weapon inside his sleeping grasp.
with no other witnesses except for charles, all evidence pointed to him. when theo’s company realized the crime would bring a bad taste to their name and scare investors off, they decided to kick him off the job. theo was not one to easily give up, but he wasn’t blind to the fact that his life was quickly becoming unsalvageable. he evaded incarceration, bought a fake i.d., and with a meager suitcase in tow, travelled by train towards lake tahoe.
he’s checked into el royale for a week now, and he intends to stay there until all of his fake documents are sorted out. after that, it’s a life of obscurity for him abroad.
