Meet the creature: Giant Jellyfish Every year in the half-Silean, half-Human port city of Gregana, a festival is held in honor of the giant jellyfish. As thousands of giant jellyfish swarm the gulf on their way to their annual mating grounds, the ocean waves light up like an underwater lightning storm. Six foot jellies float leisurely across the surface, communicating through tiny bolts of lightning as fishermen with rune-protected ships cast their nets. Throughout the rest of the year, smaller swarms of ten to fifteen can paralyze their prey using electric shocks. The giant jellyfish will then latch onto their prey with their poisonous tentacles and break down the body slowly. Once cooked, this poison is rendered safe to eat and quite delicious. Meet the creature: Khul No shore is safe from the vengeful Khul. They are one of the few civilized inhabitants of Lumis' ocean floor, though they once occupied beaches all across the mainland. The Khul are an ancient race, and they have watched the world and its ecosystem change at the hand of the surface-dwellers. Khul almost universally worship water spirits. Many of the spirits they worship are equally vested in dismantling societies that they view as harmful to nature, and will often lead Khul on raids to disrupt port cities. Meet the creature: Tooth Fairy Ripping teeth out of your mouth may sound unpleasant, but ultimately, even the pesky Tooth Fairy has a place in the ecosystem of a Fey forest. These tiny pests need to feed on teeth and bone matter to survive. They help remove infected or damaged teeth from agonizing creatures, scavenge for uncontested corpses, and are otherwise generally harmless in small numbers. Tooth Fairies, unfortunately, tend to swarm together - so much that a large swarm may find difficulty locating enough "safe" food. Hunger eventually begets frenzy, and instinct drives the swarm to rip the nearest living thing to shreds. Meet the creature: Sandworm Laying dormant under the harsh deserts of Lumis, sandworms patiently wait. These ancient creatures have inhabited the planet longer than recorded history, and have circulated through the oral history of civilized races for as long as anyone can remember. Sandworms seem to hibernate for long periods of time, but in reality, they simply remain still to conserve energy. Vibrations from large groups or massive creatures on the surface wake them. They rapidly churn through the sand, picking up speed as they near the surface to burst into the air in a magnificent spray of debris. Most sandworm-related accidents are over as soon as they start; their enormous maws are large enough to swallow entire processions of caravans in a single pass. They crash back into the sand, and if satisfied with their meal, return to their place of rest. Sandworms often leave one or two survivors behind, as their trajectories cannot always be perfect.
