Unlikely Aid

Gideon Jura was familiar with portals. He frequently summoned members of his Steel Legion, of which he was the leader. Gideon had an endles curiosity about his magic. He never fully understood the power he had been gifted. He always wondered what would happen if he stepped through the portal he used to summon various members of The Legion.
On this day gideon decided to test his theories. He began working the spell. He watched the portal materialize before him. He pressed his hand against it, feeling resistance. As if he and the portal were both magnets of the same polarity.
Gideon held his portal in place. Pressing his hand against it with greater force. Still the portal resisted. He heaved his whole body against it, still there was nothing. He wondered if there was a better way to do this. Maybe altering the spell would do the trick.
He decided to try that. With a little concentration, Gideon felt the polarity of the portal change. His hand now passed through without difficulty. Gideon wondered where his portal would take him. He sensed something... Off, on the other side, but decided to step through anyway. Gideon lept through the portal with a giant step...
And was falling. With a deep yelp of surprise he hit the ground with a loud thud and a spike of pain. Having only fell ten to twenty feet he wasnt too worse for wear. But he was sore.
