My two latest big projects- COA and PEW- side-by-side. (Both are characters by @calllynx- go check her blog out!):
White Lightning, Billowing Clouds of Ash- finished, in all her glory! Fanart for a character by @calllynx, now brought to life.
Finished sculpture of White Lightning, Billowing Clouds of Ash (COA), character by @calllynx.
I sculpted this one in January and only got it back from the kiln a few days ago, and have since added all the jewelry and painted it. She's made of fired earthenware clay, wire for the jewelry, and is painted with acrylics.
I made a sculpture of this same character about one year ago, and always felt dissatisfied with how it turned out. Still proud of it, but felt I could have done much more. Now I have, and that itch is scratched (for now).
This one was a joy to make. The last one I made of this character ended up being pretty intricate, with lots of decorative elements and emphasis on dress. For this one, I wanted to take a simpler tack, focusing on the character herself and her distinctive elements. That mostly meant the nose rings, eye dots, and earrings, all of which were great fun to make.
The hair was a bit tedious to make, but I feel it turned out well. Didn't really figure out a concrete way to texture it, but it works. That was one of the main things I felt the most dissatisfied with in the original I made, and that's been resolved now.
Anyways- go check out @calllynx, her art is cool. Got me to make two sculptures out of one design, so that tells you something, probably.
Another sculpture of White Lightning, Billowing Clouds Of Ash (COA)- birthday gift for @calllynx. Many happy returns!
Miles beyond the last one I did. I always felt dissatisfied with the hair on that one. I'm satisfied with what I did on this one, though, so consider me redeemed.
This one was speedy, and took only about a week of off-and-on work to do. Amazing what you can do when you're not stressed as hell with schoolwork.
Some closeups:
And me holding it for scale. It's about five inches/thirteen centimeters tall.
This is another base, so I'm going to add some details and paint it once it's been fired. That'll be in a while, though.
Everyone go wish a happy birthday to @calllynx!
Thought that maskless COA perhaps merited her own post (full version here):
