Ryan was surprised to see Ellis talking with someone so familiarly. He’d seen Ellis’s bus and had made his way toward it, only to realize he was talking to someone. They seemed like . . . friends? Ellis had other friends?

He ducked behind a car, not wanting them to notice him watching them. When he peeked up over the car, he saw Ellis driving off, leaving the guy walking back toward him. He tried to avoid running into him, but he tripped over the curb and fell onto the sidewalk, directly in front of Sutton’s feet.

“Fuck!”

Ryan grinned sharply at the insult. “Clever. You come up with that one all by yourself?” he asked, not moving from where he was standing. “You’re out here crying in front of everyone. Do that shit in your own house, unless you’re looking for attention, in which case you can’t complain about me giving you some, sweetheart.”

Ryan pulled the blanket closer around him as he watched Ezra set their food on the small coffee table in front of them. He gestured for Ezra’s attention before saying and signing (as best he could): “how come you’re still living here? With the no rent thing you could get a bigger place.”

He didn’t recognize her, at first.

Hanging out by the roller coaster making bets with himself to see how many people would blow chunks, Ryan caught sight of the blonde beauty and something about her caught his eye. Not just the sexy outfit, but the person herself. He knew her . . . didn’t he?

“Hey sexy mama,” he called out to her, feeling emboldened by the full face mask he wore. “Where you off to?” If he didn’t know her, maybe he could still make a little money today.

As soon as Ryan saw Ellis approach, his face lit up. He stood and made his way over, stopping just short of hugging him. “You came,” he said with a small smile. “I . . . wasn’t sure if you would. I mean, with Mia here and everything . . . I’m glad you did, though.”

“Why the fuck would I be stalking you? I’m just walking here,” Ryan said, though he stopped when he saw who it was that had called out to him. “Oh. It’s you.” He snorted softly. “You really think I’m out here stalking you? You’ve got a pretty big head. Not everything is about you, you know.”

Olivia and Ezra were at the Valentine’s thing, and Ryan wasn’t sure where Kim was, probably working, so that left him with nothing to do and no one to hang out with. He thought about calling Mia, but he wasn’t sure where they stood, and asking her to hang out on Valentine’s Day had implications. He knew she probably wouldn’t know those implications, but he did, and that was enough.

He ended up wandering the familiar streets of Faerune, used to how they looked after dark. When he saw someone out of the corner of his eye, he thought he was seeing things for a moment before he took another look and recognition hit him.

“Thatcher? Hey! Thatch! Is that you?” he called, jogging over to see if he was right.

Ryan wasn’t expecting to run into Thalia again outside of Mia’s apartment, and he hadn’t even been there recently. But here she happened to be, at his work. “Uh, hey,” he said, throwing the cleaning cloth he’d been using over his shoulder. “You picking up or dropping off?”
