If he was pressed with the question, Maytrix wouldn’t be able to tell just when he and Ryson had changed from being just friends and roommates to more. It was a gradual shift that was so seamless that no one who knew them was even surprised by it. They began as friends simply living together because it was convenient, because they loved learning about one another’s culture and wanted to know each other better and also because neither of them was happy living alone anymore.
They had started in different bedrooms until a week full of thunderstorms had started, driving Ryson into Maytrix’s bedroom for comfort and the two got so used to it that it only felt right when Ryson continued to follow him to his room for the night or Maytrix would come in from his workshop and find the Amarathian already curled up on ‘their’ side of the bed.
The casual hugs shifted a bit at a time to snuggles and grooming. There was even a brief time when Ryson had been jealous of the amount of time Maytrix spent with his biosuits and the Fuzzle had to prod for an answer as to why the plant person was so pouty when he went to work.
But they both knew that they were a couple now, everyone else knew it too so there were no shocked looks when Ryson introduced Maytrix as their partner. Maytrix’s family was a bit surprised, but that was more because he wasn’t coming home than because he was settling down with the Amarathian.
