A shortlist of people doing cool shit with AI actually:
Redslug (utilizing AI trained on personal artwork as a rendering engine)
ReachArtwork (specifically her transhumanist and body horror work)
OddBirds (A conceptual project combining a variety of novel AI techniques and elements into a larger whole)
Scott Eaton (also using AI as a rendering engine to apply human anatomy to abstract shapes he designs)
Jake Elwes (Honestly... Just... JUST---watch "Machine Learning Porn" if that's not art to you we simply just have fundementally different definitions of art.)
Generative AI is not some monolith and not exclusively ONLY useful for replacing art and artists. It can be a part of what we do the same way other digital tools have been. No amount of corporate exploitation or asshole trolls changes the value of protecting people's ability to create work like this and have their efforts be acknowledged and respected.
You're allowed to not like any individual artist or their work. Hell I can't stop you from hating AI and having measured negative opinions about it, I would probably agree with most of the points you're making anyway. All I can do it show you the stuff that altered my perception of AI and it's role in creativity and say harrassing any individual person for generating an image is shitty, unnacceptable behavior that needs to stop.
This is not something I plan on talking about a lot but I do want my stance here to be clear just like all my other divisive stances. Because I am incapable of just keeping an opinion to myself. A major character flaw, really.
