Saint Barbara

Patronage: prisoners, architects, artillerymen

Saint Barbara, a 4th century Christian so angered her pagan father by her will to remain a virgin, that he forced her to live in a locked tower. The solitude gave her the ability to pray, study and convert to the faith. He then denounced St. Barbara to the civil authorities, where by she was horribly tortured and at last beheaded. Her father was the executioner. As he was traveling home, he was struck dead by lightning. When anger controls us, the consequences are grave.

Saint Barbara, also known in the Eastern Orthodox Church as the Great Martyr Barbara, was a legendary Christian martyr born in Heliopolis, Phoenicia. According to the legend, she is the patron saint of miners and artillerymen. Her death was attended by many miracles. One of them is that her father was struck dead by lightning after killing the daughter. The mosaic icon was created in the 19th century and is now held at the Museum of the History of Religion in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Saint Barbara / Santa Barbara

This is my final touch up with saint pictures. My Being has done remakes with Saint Barbara on three turns, hence, this one is my final. The first picture on top is my touch up and remake, the second one is the original picture.

Her robe is now red instead of blue, and her goblet are placed with bejeweled upgrades, her halo is different, the "JHS" above her goblet is different, and the background are replaced with blue sky and clouds.

My Being is posting this altered picture of St. Barbara, the lightning; because it is finally finished.

This is the second strain of my St. Barbara's work.

The FIRST PICTURE is my work, with entirely changed wardrobe colors, her goblet is better bejeweled, and so is her sword and cape clipper: and St. Barbara's face and eyes are brighter, and her eyes are added with a touch of green: and the hand holding the sword is repaired.  A lot was changed in this one, almost entirely.

The SECOND PICTURE is the original, with the original blue highlights, and a bent print in the center.

This is my third post of my final editions for St. Barbara.

My Being is posting this altered picture of St. Barbara, the lightning; because this one is finally finished.

This is the fourth strain of my St. Barbara's work.

The FIRST PICTURE is my work, with entirely changed wardrobe colors (red is deeper on this one), her goblet is silver instead of gold/brass, and so is her cape clipper, and also with a little glowing light at the top of her steel sword: and St. Barbara's face is brighter, and her eyes are added with a touch of green looking towards you, instead of looking upwards. Her background is changed, and so is her halo. A lot was changed in this one, almost entirely.

The SECOND PICTURE is the original, with the original blue highlights.

The 4th of December marks the celebration of Saint Barbara. In lebanon “maacaroun and Amhiyeh” are two of the mouth watering sweets eaten to celebrate this day. This saint who lived in the 4th century, was the daughter of a heathen; she converted to Christianity, rejecting all suitors proposed by her father. She used to put on a disguise to make herself unattractive and go to the wheat fields to a grotto to get away from the cruelty of her father. It is said that the wheat would grow to hide her as she ran through it. Eventually Saint Barbara was caught and at the moment her father was about to strike off her head, a sudden flash of lightning laid him dead. In the west Saint Barbara is invoked against lightning and is the patron saint of arsenals, artillery and firemen.
