apache tears: a sadness headcanon

I don’t tend to think of Shen has being very sad at this age. Or at least, not in a way that translates as ‘sadness’ very easily to those observing him.

He mostly becomes very irritable and stubborn, and it often comes across more as him simply being difficult or bratty. And at the root of most of his behavioral issues is a vast amount of anger.

...tho that still probably stems from a lot of hurt.

opal: how creative my muse is

I kinda touched on this in the art crystal one, but I think he perhaps has some problems with creativity. (As, like I said there, while he might have enjoyed doodling as a sickly child, he didn’t have many ideas of what to draw other than the people or environments around him.)

He doesn’t really imagine up grand adventures or stories, and he generally waits around for other people to tell him what to do if he’s bored or unhappy. Especially as a child, he looked to adults to give him entertainment, whether it was as vague and simple as ideas or merely handing him a toy or game/puzzle.

Mr. Ping was not quite as blunt or outspoken as many might imagine: the trait wasn't a favorable one when your line of work relied somewhat on charm and otherwise getting people to like you. So, although the first thing he noticed about a new customer wandering by late in the evening might have been a rather distressing scar or a distinctly dour expression, he could bite his tongue and smile instead.

Everyone had bad days, anyway- maybe he was simply unfortunate enough to be caught in the crosshairs of someone else's. He could handle that. Probably.
