i have three new piercings, two lobes and one cartalige all done professionally, what is the difference with using table salt or sea salt made for kitchen purposes in my saline solution?

Non-iodized sea salt contains only 2mcg of iodine while regular table salt is iodized to contain 77g of iodine due to the rising numbers of iodine deficiencies. The second difference is that iodized salt contains additives such as bone meal, that aren't good or safe for your piercings. Using iodized salt can cause severe chemical burns and irritation to the fistula. 

Non-iodized sea salt is natural and contains little to no additives. It will not cause chemical burns or irritation besides some mild drying of the skin. Non-iodized sea salt or mild, unscented antibacterial/antimicrobial soap are always the safest and best options for piercing aftercare. And make sure your making your saline solutions to the correct portions! 1/4tsp non-iodized sea salt to 1 cup warm/hot water! I hope this clears everything up for you!

I have an upper cartilage piercing, and its starting to get irritated/red, and i really would rather it didnt get infected. Unfortunately though, i didnt know how to clean it properly when i first did it (myself, with a sewing needle :/) and still dont know the best way. Does hydrogen peroxide solution actually work to clean the piercing? Or is salt water best?

Oh wow...omg. Ok so your first mistake was piercing yourself with a sewing needle. If it is red and irritated, it likely already has the beginnings of an infection. Probably from the improperly sterilized equipment you used. 

Your second mistake is not even researching the proper aftercare method! I mean seriously?! If you're going to make the mistake of piercing yourself, you couldn't at least have researched anything about the piercing itself?! Hydrogen peroxide is the absolute worst thing you could use on a fresh piercing. It even says right on the bottle that hydrogen peroxide is not meant for puncture wounds, a piercing is a puncture wound. Hydrogen peroxide or products like that will not only dry out the skin and prevent healing, the effect of the product oxidizing while it cleans can lead to a yeast infection in the fresh piercing. 

Considering you may already have an infection in the piercing, the first thing you need to do is start performing proper aftercare. You'll want to do hot saline soaks. Wash your hands thoroughly in antibacterial soap. Mix your saline solution of 1/4tsp non-iodized sea salt to 1 cup warm/hot water. Since you may have an infection, this will work best if the water is as hot as possible without burning you. Soak the piercing in the solution for a period of 1-3 minutes. Then rinse the piercing in warm water. 

Second, go in to speak with a professional piercer immediately! Tell them exactly what you did and ask what you should do or what they can do to repair the damage you have done. They may recommend you see a doctor for a course of antibiotics or they may recommend you come back in a few weeks to get the piercing removed once the infection has cleared up. Finally, slap yourself for doing something so stupid! And never EVER pierce yourself again! And please god, do some research next time you want a body mod...Hope this helps.
