The Mojave Desert is large, desolate, and beautiful. The ground is cracked and dry, crunching underneath your feet as you walk. Here in Amboy, California, salt is mined from the underground pooling of brine. The water is crystal clear, transitioning from green to blue in color. The evaporation of the water in warmer weather leaves the salt behind.
A crab!!
I made up this saltflats crab for a discord prompt. They grow salt crystals on their shells for camouflage, and have scoop shaped pinchers to skim algae and insect larvae from shallow brine pools. A crab species that adapts to live on vast evaporated ocean plains. Speculative biology(?)
📍Salar de Uyuni, Bolívia 🇧🇴
Salar de Uyuni Mirror Effect Location: Potosí, Bolivia
During the rainy season (November to March) the water accumulates on the surface of the Salar de Uyuni and creates a giant mirror that perfectly reflects the sky and clouds above and you can play with the optical illusions the lack of horizon causes.
