But in serious post-Shadowbringers thoughts, my WoL’s character issue has always been struggling with feelings of unworthiness. Yes, many people in her past have made hearty attempts to get through to her, to convince her that she’s capable and strong and deserving of their praise and affection. But she stubbornly refuses to believe it.
I think the Exarch’s very particular words start to tip those scales. I think somehow, given the force, the weight, the theme of the journey, the Exarch in essence finally got through. He showed her the potential, exemplified in himself.
Maybe the WoL was the Exarch’s inspiration ... or maybe the tables have turned. She could be like him. She could choose to lose to win, to sacrifice her mortal joys and treasures, her very identity, for the sake of a better tomorrow. Conveniently, this also reflects the journey of her father.
There’s a reason her sin is greed. Avarice, voracity; she covets. She fears letting go. She fears having so much to lose.
But the lesson of Amaurot, of Emet-Selch remains. Perhaps it is worse to cling. Perhaps digging your claws so deep into the past only serves to destroy you.
