Kissing Sam Wilson #17 - Angel (SamJoaquin, 500 words)Sam Joaquin

Joaquin had jokingly called Sam his angel years earlier. It had been a minor mission before they started dating. He’d found himself in a bit of a scrape and Sam had swept down from the sky. Joaquin had hit his head pretty hard. Later, he’d find out it was a minor concussion. He had stared up at Sam as he seemed to come through the crowds and said in a confused voice, “That’s my angel…”
Now, they were dating, and Sam had once again swooped down to his rescue. This mission, he was far worse off. That concussion from a few years back was looking pretty good. He cradled his clearly broken arm against his chest, head lolling back. Those guys were aggressive in trying to get what they wanted. Luckily, Sam’s arrival had scared them off, but he was pretty outnumbered. Long story short, they had beaten the shit out of him.
It was, unfortunately, just part of the job.
Joaquin had always accepted the dangers of being in the air force. It just was what it was and he knew that he was up fpr that challenge. He looked up and saw Sam swoop down, a smirk on his face.
“My angel has returned,” he muttered, holding his arm tight and wondering if Sam recalled their earlier conversation. Joaquin felt a warmth spread through him and he was just relieved. “You’re back again, Sam.”
“What the hell happened?” Sam asked as he helped Joaquin sit up. He was absolutely in pain, but he was trying to ignore it. He didn’t want Sam to think that he was too hurt to move. He didn’t want Sam to worry. But god, it hurt. It hurt badly. “J, you okay?”
He hadn’t even noticed his head had been lolling back until Sam said something.
“Not feeling great,” he admitted. His head was pounding and his vision blurred. He felt like he was going to pass out. If he passed out, he was going to be humiliated. “I got in a little bit over my head. I’m sorry.”
“No need to apologize,” Sam said, stroking a hand against his cheek. Joaquin found himself leaning in easily. It felt so good, so comforting.
“Yeah guess you needed an angel.”
Joaquin rolled his eyes as Sam pressed their lips together. It was a gentle kiss, familiar but not intense. Joaquin felt a warmth spread through his body. He closed his eyes, and for a moment, the world stopped spinning. The kiss changed everything.
