18 Days of the Sandhills: A Countdown Day 15 The 15th hole at Southern Pines starts the homeward stretch in earnest, a long, straight par five to a deep, elevated green with more back to front tilt than you'll be comfortable with if you're on the wrong section. The Dormie Club's 15 hole varies greatly depending on what tee you play from. From the back tees, it's a tough left-to-right bending hole with a forced carry off of the tee. From more forward tees, it's a straight-forward, almost driveable risk-reward hole with tough L-to-R pitch. Mid Pines' 15th hole is a long, narrow ribbon of a roller coaster par five featuring a tremendous right-to-left slide of the fairway. 18 Days of the Sandhills Day 13 Southern Pines' 13th hole is the mirror image of the preceding hole: a long downhill par 4, with a generously wide landing area, leaving a good look at narrow but receptive green. The 13th hole at Mid Pines is the course's hardest par three, requiring a long iron into a green with a severe right to left tilt, surrounded by a sea of sand. In the fields just to the south of Tobacco Road there was a beautiful fog on the fields, as I meandered back to town. It put a gorgeous glow on the otherwise pedestrian fields and flats. It was different than the fog we get in Kentucky.
