The Claws of Axos - season 08 - 1971
Here's a tier list, I've done for the Classic Doctor Who companions, (No I won't be doing companions from NuWho or DisneyWho)
If the characters in your current WIP could freeze time for a day, what would they do with that time?
Currently I am working on a Doctor Who fanfic focused on Jo Grant so I shall use her.
And tbf if she discovered she had that power she'd very like Just Another Tuesday. and probably go talk to the Doctor about it.
My secondary main character in this particular fic is Sargent Benton and if he and Jo got together I think they'd have a splendid day away from the rest of UNIT eating cheese and toast and gossiping.

Jo pressed up against the wall, leaning her head back and shutting her eyes. She took a few deep breaths, trying to calm her breathing enough to listen.
She slid down the wall, beaths settling a little, and steadied herself with a hand on the rough gravel of the ground outside UNIT headquarters. Two more deep breaths and she had steadied her breathing enough to be able to listen for the sound of boots coming after her.
She’d managed to make it outside, that was something. But she couldn’t leave, no without the Doctor. Not without figuring out what was going on.
She gave herself a few more moments to fully settle her breathing then carefully stood up again. She peered around the corner, then ducked back immediately at the sight of uniformed men moving into the courtyard.
A shaky breath involuntarily escaped her mouth, cut off before it turned into a squeak. They all had guns as well--of course they did, this was UNIT. She just wasn’t used to those weapons being a threat to her.
But her quick glimpse had allowed her to get a view of Bessie, and the sight of the car was enough for her to develop a quick plan around. If she could make it to Bessie, she could try to go for help--the Brigadier due back from London soon, and if anyone could bring order to whatever was going on, it’d be him.
There were a number of flaws in this plan, the most obvious being Bessie was on the complete other side of the courtyard, and there was about half of the active UNIT troops between her and the car. The other flaw was that she’d never actually driven the car.
How hard could it be though? One problem at a time.
She was loath to abandon the Doctor, especially without knowing what exactly they were going to do with him. But she had been so efficiently driven outside, she wasn’t sure she’d be able to even get inside again, let along anywhere near wherever the Doctor was being held. And as much as she was willing to attempt it, finding the Brigadier would be more helpful in the long run.
The plan had been formed in only a few seconds, and now she had to figure out how to cross the courtyard. She risked another glance around the corner and saw that the men between her and the car had diminished to only three, scanning the area. She could slip past three.
She knew the layout of the courtyard enough to know that there was a space between this building and the next she could duck into. With another glance to make sure no one was looking her way, she took a deep breath and ran out.
She almost made it. She was just a few paces away from ducking into the shadow of the building when a gunshot exploded behind her and she felt the wall beside her explode with a spray of brick. She yelped, running faster, ducking low, heart pounding.
Her feet skidded on the gravel and she almost lost her balance as she ducked into the cover between the two buildings, glancing behind her as she did. Three UNIT soldiers were rushing towards her, holding their guns, shouting to each other.
She slammed into someone, almost knocked off balance but whoever it was caught her. She tried to tug away but she was pulled quickly into a door, tucked away behind the building.
“Jo!” a familiar voice hissed and she hesitated in her struggles enough to see Sargent Benton, a hand still holding arm. He had lost his hat and had blood running down one side of his face, but Jo had never been more glad to see him.
“Sargent,” she cried. For a moment, they studied each other warily. Jo wasn’t sure what she would do if Benton started trying to capture or kill her or whatever it was everyone else was doing.
Then bootsteps sounded from outside and Benton pressed himself up against the wall and Jo flung herself into his side, burying her face in his shoulder. He wrapped an arm around her and for a moment, they just stood there. She could hear his heart, under his uniform, beating rapidly.
Muted conversations came from outside, and then she heard the men disperse again. Letting out a deep breath, she pulled away from Benton.
“You alright, Miss Grant?” he asked. She nodded, feeling suddenly breathless.
“Am I glad to see you,” she said. “What’s happening?”
“The boys brought in some alien thing, this morning,” Benton said, keeping his voice low. “I was storing it when it went off, exploded or something. Woke up and everything had gone mad.”
Jo nodded, wrapping her arms around herself. She’d been with the Doctor in the lab when the whole building had shook.
“Are you alright?” she asked, reaching a hand up to touch the blood on his forehead. He blinked, seeming surprised that the wound was even there.
“Oh, just a scratch really,” he said dismissively. “Where’s the Doctor?”
Jo looked down, the concern and fear she’d been trying not to think too hard about raring its head.
“I’m not sure,” she said. “Benton, they came right for him.” It had only been a few minutes after the earthquake before soldiers had marched into the lab and placed the Doctor under arrest. Though that was a mild way of putting it. He managed to draw their attention enough for her to slip out but-- “I don’t know where they took him.”
“Okay,” Benton said. “Look, Miss Grant, you find somewhere out of the way to stay hidden. I’ll try find the Doctor and a way to get in contact with the Brigadier-” Jo was already shaking her head adamantly.
“No way,” she said. “I’m not leaving you out here alone. Besides, I doubt there is anywhere that’s safe.”
He didn’t like it, but Jo knew he wasn’t going to put up much of a fight. He’d also not let her out of his sight, but she found she didn’t mind that very much.
Sure enough, he let out a sigh and nodded.
“Alright. But stay close.”
Together the two of them sneaked carefully through the UNIT headquarters. ___
do NOT ask me what is going on i don't know its probably the Master i just liked the idea of Jo and Benton having to sneak around UNIT base. Similar to another story i've played around with but that one included cybermen
Doctor and Benton <3<3
I have... many ideas and no way to write them and no friends to really share them with so I’m gonna throw them into a text post.
1- Jessie’s Girl AU
Benton And Jo become a thing (because sunshine plus sunshine) and Mike isn’t sure how to feel about it, or who he’s even wants more. The Brig definitely has some awareness of the thing and is the only one who sees the poly resolution a mile away.
(This is one part inspired by the song but also a fuck you to the end of Magician’s Oath because Yates doesn’t deserve to be alone)
2- Benton as a dad
I have no real foundation or ship preference with this (Although I did get his companion chronicle and he’s so cute over Margery), just Benton as the bestest dad. I like to imagine his first is a little girl and he’s so happy and so proud, what a good lad. And if he’s not with Yates/Yates is a part of a poly thing then he’s the weird uncle.
