Being a Wayne was harder than it sounded. It looked easy on the outside, flashy cars, expensive outfits, galas every weekend. But it wasn’t so easy once you actually got closer. And part of being a Wayne meant attending Gotham Academy. A good school, the best even! But it was a school where making the cut didn’t just mean your academics, it meant your family line.
For Tau, being adopted meant she only barely managed to make it. No one would go after her, but they wouldn’t help her unless it would be an advantage later. Sometimes it was as simple as getting each other out of awkward conversations at galas. Other times it was stuff like dropping hints to teachers that one student might have drugs in his locker. And if that student happened to be the academic rival of the girl that helped Tau get away from some creepy business men at last month’s fundraising gala, then that was only their business.
New semester though, meant new people. One of whom was in her own class.
“Charity cases the whole lot,” she heard Ariana Dzerchenko comment loudly as the older girl passed. “Just like the Wayne girl.”
What did Tim ever see in that girl?
Tau gritted her teeth and stood up, marching past Ariana to the new boy. “Need help with your locker?” She asked. “The locks can be a bit tricky. I’m Tau, Tau Wayne,” she stuck her hand out. “What’s your name?”
