Hey, I just read and totally agree with your Berseria rant. I just beat it earlier today and I was seriously crying. Like, it made me write a... less eloquent rant on my blog and I'm just trying to make sense of it all so I can write fanfic that will fix this mess.

Not a problem at all! I’m glad to serve because hooo boy was it the biggest letdown I’ve had in a long time

Like I saw SOME sort of sacrifice coming, but this was honestly worse than anything I could have ever imagined and it made me SO SAD in the worst way possible, esp since a lot of other fears I had about the game’s plot came true yet they came true in a way that I actually liked

Velvet makes an equally strange comment about how apparently boys in particular like obsessing over weird stuff (ie. the compass) so maybe its related to that

Also there are like thousand different times in the game when someone asks Eleanor to marry them out of blue, just because she's a kind and beautiful young woman. It really rubbed me the wrong way too.

Also this is less sexism and more just the game being weird, but this game has a really weird obsession with Laphicet’s love life. Like, he’s just a kid, why do we have to ask if he’s into older women or whatever shit every few seconds.

oh no………………….

It’s mostly dialogue stuff and microaggressions, but it’s still enough to make the whole experience uncomfortable

Like, there’s a scene where Laphicet’s looking at a compass a little TOO intently and Velvet goes “boys are always interested in weird stuff like that”. No reason to bring gender into it whatsoever, but she does

And Velvet’s brother makes remarks abt how he wants her to be more ladylike (so she can land a husband, according to the brat’s journal)

After seeing Eleanor crying Rokurou says to “not trust a woman’s tears”

There’s also a really REALLY weird line where Teresa says women shouldn’t let themselves get cold; I’m wondering if that’s rooted in Japanese culture but they still translated it

Tl;Dr a whole lotta bringing up gender when nobody asked

Yes, I’m serious. Kaede is honest to god killed and replaced with the detective dude (I think it’s the detective dude anyway) after the first chapter of the game.

Chunsoft and Kodaka actually thought that would be okay.

And it fucking KILLS me because this was a fear I had that I thought was completely unfounded, but no. I was right AND I predicted it

(I don’t know who kills her but watch as it turns out to be Maki..... (points to that one official art of them) Female protag baiting AND queerbaiting!)

No problem!

My biggest advice to anyone who’s thinking of starting Rays is DO IT -NOW-. Not just because I love the game and want others to support it, but because the sooner you start the less event characters you’ll miss out on. (I may have already said that in my guide idr, but this is SUPER IMPORTANT so I”m saying it again!)

The game’s. Extremely biased towards day 1 players unfortunately, but the good news is that the Alisha event JUST started so provided you work like a mule to get her you still have time.
