Video Clip SS255297 (Lunar Transit of Sun)

Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) clip of the Moon (dark shadow) passing in front of the Sun on January 30, 2014. This event is known as a transit. 

Towards the end of the clip, after the Moon has passed across the Sun, a solar flare erupts from the Sun at left. This clip was obtained in 171 angstrom light.

The Solar Dynamics Observatory spacecraft was developed at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, and launched on February 11, 2010, from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.
