I do not know how to explain Battle of the Linguist Mages by Scotto Moore but ooo boy I'm gonna try because it's worth it.
Okay here we go..
Picture this: The newest version of the best VR game is on the horizon - Sparkle Dungeon Ver 5. The newest EDM fueled dungeon crawler packed to the high notes with glitter monsters full of rainbow blood, sparkly armour, and musical weapons.
It's going to be the biggest thing since Sparkle Dungeon Ver 4.
And Isobel, our hero, has been at the top of the leaderboard since version 1.
Since she's been crowned Queen, and retained her crown, with her best talent of screaming song spells at her enemies, she's just perfect for a job in the Ad Company that owns the Sparkle Dungeon games.
A job in what you ask? Good question, on the surface it looks like any other marketing and social organising position, but that's just a cover, for her lessons in morphemes - power sound spells that can alter the way reality works.
But the girl who had this job last went rogue and is now trying to destroy what the company is doing, the launch of Ver 5 is coming quickly, the Ad Company's dead founder had theories that could change the way our minds work, Oh!, and there's a whole cult that likes to mob-crash the Sparkle Dungeon and swear that they have a slice of an alien soul inside them, fun!
So it's safe to say Isobel has a lot on her plate… right?
Right! Except there's also a darkness that can wipe out all of existence looming in the distance too!!
Listen, this book is A Lot. And all of it is good. It's exciting. It's confusing. It's full of nerdy linguist stuff. It's glitter and dancing and heart and kindness. It's all the universe building anyone could ask for. This book is for everyone who thought Gideon the Ninth needed more rainbow swords and sentient punctuation marks.
