@unsteals: the world has been thrown into chaos; everything is confusion, disbelief, and a host of other equally intense & visceral emotions. as those who'd been lost begin returning, the ones that survive the terror all the way through begin seeking out the familiar. searching for friends, calling relatives. and layla can only think to call one person - borrowing the cell phone of a stranger, praying he picks up anyways.
It had been five years. Five years since half of the population vanished, nothing but dust. Marc, despite spending all of those years grieving the loss of the one whom he had loved the most, was getting used to being alone again. It was evident the whole population felt the loss. While things were busy, they weren’t nearly as upbeat and cheerful as they had once been.
He’s headed to work, a normal 9 to 5. It didn’t make him rich by any means, but it paid his bills, which was enough for him. His phone rings. He sighs, it’s probably his boss calling to nag at him some more. But the number isn’t in his phone. Normally, he’d ignore it, but this time Marc’s gut is screaming at him to pick it up. So he listens, putting the phone up to his ear. And when he hears the voice, that oh so familiar voice that he hadn’t heard in five years, he nearly drops the phone. All around him people are shouting and crying, shouts of joy and excited chatter. But he doesn’t hear any of that. What he hears right now, is his wife Layla’s voice on the phone, speaking at him a million words a minute.
