careless conversations | sebastian & regulus
“...And then I swore at her to get out of my way. Unintentional, uncivilised. But necessary.” Regulus finished his story, a tale about a situation he had dealt with more than once.
It wasn’t necessarily his friends fault, he thought absent-mindedly, remembering how the student had approached him to ask if he was associated with Sebastian and then followed this with many other questions he didn’t care to answer. It was just apparently the attitude that the Hufflepuff had. It was more irritating as while the two were friends, he certainly wasn’t his closest and Regulus was sure the likes of Dolohov or Lestrange never got approached by swooning females. He blamed his own civilised nature and his usual impassive attitude.
Usually, being asked about Sebastian wouldn’t have been a particular issue. But he had been on his way to Hogsmeade to meet the very boy she insisted on bringing up, acutely aware of how late he was. Regulus was a sucker of punctuality. He had tried to move her to the side, excused himself multiple times before he had started to lose his temper. He wasn’t sure why the girl was so eager to talk about something he was clearly not interested in.
In the end, with nothing else working, Regulus had resorted into snapping. It wasn’t on the usual level on someone being irritated. Even when angry, the fifth year had practised at toning down to an appropriate level. His voice was only raised ever so slightly from its usual volume, his tone only the slightest bit lower to express actual annoyance rather than vague indifference. He was sure that she still wouldn’t have understood his anger if the words fuck off hadn’t accompanied it.
He hated using vulgarity, but he didn’t understand the incessant need to keep talking about such a shallow subject. It only irritated him more as he wandered into Hogsmeade and saw the grinning face of the older student. That boy was far too happy. It took less than two minutes of seeing him before Regulus had expressed his displeasure about the entire experience. He wasn’t sure what he expected Sebastian to say, it wasn’t something worthy of an apology.
But it was as good of an icebreaker as any.
“It’s rather exhausting deviating your… fans.” Regulus informed him tiredly.
